No tricks, just find items that buyers want, at a reasonable price, fast shipping and great customer service if a buyer has a problem.
It takes time for any new business to grow, no one goes fro 0 to 200 miles an hour in the early stages.

Unless you have a fixed rate of return on the sale of your items you may be asking the wrong question. You can sell $500 a month in merchandise and either make money, loose money or break even. I never consider total sales to be a business goal but focus on what my rate of return is on my investment. Which is better to sell $500 a month and make a net return of $50 or to sell $200 a month and make $100?
Take a bigger view of your business model and determine what you want your net return, after expenses and taxes, to be and let that drive your business model/goal.

repeat sales to regulars
with the new display you can see all the regulars
when I sell 20 items at auction on a thursday night you can see all the repeats
up and down the page are "repeat buyer"
never end a 99 cent auction to sell as a buy it now no matter what price its at
bidders buyers and ebayers dont like an auction that does not go for 7 days
when you end it early you rob them of a chance to bid and it leaves a bad taste with them
watchers will bid at the end of an auction and they dont want the chance of the listing disappearing

That's a very odd question.
You think there is some kind of "trick" to selling $500 a month?
I sell more than $500 a month.
There are no tricks.
It's all hard work.

Find a niche and make it your specialty.
