Sales, what...?

Hi everybody!

Is something going wrong on Ebay?

Is there a huge decline in sales in general?

I can see that all my sales come from promoted listings only. No base sales.

I think that Ebay has lost its power though. It is not as it used to be. My personal opinion.

My shops on other marketplaces are going really good.

There is your answer right there - there are oodles of marketplaces for people to purchase on. We're not going to see the sales we saw 5,10,15,20 yrs ago because there is so much competition now. You have to pick and choose what to sell and know when to sell it.

And by going in the direction ebay has been going, they have been steadily putting themselves (as well as all it's sellers) into direct competition with all these other marketplaces, instead of standing out from the crowd as a unique marketplace.

eBay has its sellers completing against themselves with all these race to the bottom gimmicks.

time - you and I are never going to see eye to eye - but as you stated - some people are doing very well here and the tides will turn and those like you and I who are slower will have our time to shine.

Of course sellers are competing against each other - that's called a free market. There are only so many top spots and we'll get our turn - now whether the buyers are looking for our items when we do have the increased visibility is the question - but Ebay doesn't control what a buyer purchases. They may direct them to what the buyer appears to be looking for - but each buyer has the option to keep looking at other listings that may fit there needs more or click the buy button and be happy with what Ebay shows them.

We shouldn't have to wait our turn. That's not a free market. A free market is where Everyone can see Everything up for sale without manipulation (Stuff being hidden). My sales, and nobody else for that matter, should cycle. My current pattern is 4 months of no to low sales, then 4 months of steady, lots of sales. An it hits all 4 of my accounts at the same time. Rigged system.

eBay controls what people buy, to a point, when eBay hides listed items from search. As a buyer, I've been victim to this practice by eBay a number of times, that I rarely just use eBay search before I make a final decision to purchase something here.

I've seen everything you have listed for a long time now. Nothing is hidden so please stop starting rumours about Ebay hiding your stuff. Yes, it is a free market and if you cannot keep up with the demand you need to make changes. Complaining is not going to help you at all and it's best to learn to accept it or go with the flow. because Ebay is not listening to you.

Your seeing all my stuff because your going into my listing inventory. I recently had a rep go through my listings with me through search. While she was pulling up my listings doing mirrored searches to mine, I was not finding all of them. She got her supervisor involved, and her supervisor was getting the same results as me. I just got a call back the other day, stating that they are still investigating the issue.

I know how to search. Of course I check to see your listings, how else could I search for them. Once I saw the items you have for sale I went through and found others like yours by doing a normal search like any other buyer would do. Yours are ALL visible. The CS person wanted you off the phone. It's a tactic they use for those who refuse to hang up or agree with them.

That's a good one. So then, why did that person call me back twice now for follow-ups.

So here's an update on accounts for the month:

-One is doing fine, almost double last year with two weekends to go

-The other two are pathetic ... one is virutally flat-lining with only 3 sales in March and the other not much better with 7 ...

I am doing alright but I find that the only way to fight low sales to to list more items or improve current listings with more details or lower prices.

My sales have dropped since the start of March.... just dropped from 1 a day to 2 over the last 15 days. I did get two low ball offers for 2 items yesterday.  That is it!  I cannot sustain a store subscription at this rate.

I sold more with 98% score and no store than I do now with 100% score and a basic store, go figure, a few sales now and then, maybe 4 to 5 sales a month if I'm lucky, like winning the lottery, last year and the year before were about 15 to 25 sales a month, so ebay just is not that great for me anymore, but I keep hoping things will pick up, but competition is trendy with etsy, bonanza, amazon, google sell, and about twenty other new selling sites, go daddy has started an aggressive website fabrication sales with commercials on tv. I think ebay could spend some of that cash on more tv ad's.

@gpnexus  Just an update:  3 Accounts here, one is doing okay but two are almost flat lined since last week and changes that have been going on with eBay's site and the changes coming for this year.  Since Friday activity has been a trickle and sales an occasional ... drip.  Here's a strange occurance folks who read this might find interesting ... late last week I started a thread about the "new" Help Pages A-Z format (pic below) ... low and behold, some older members saw it and said oh that's not new, that's a pre-2008 formatted page!  SERIOUSLY????  others have it coming up too which tells me eBay is doing some strange dragging up old progamming ... maybe shoving accounts to old servers while they pre newer ones for the upcoming changes to the site ... so maybe the net-net is lower visibility and activity ... just my opinion but oddly the drop in activity and sales coincides with what I just described ...

only about one third of my listings show up in searches and they are all promoted. So I did a little test had a friend list 3 of my best sellers at a lower price none have ever showed in over 3 weeks no joke. Over on that place named after a river. I have many of the items I sell on ebay listed. 161 sales so far this month on that place named after a river. 3 on Ebay same time period humm ebay free shipping that river place buyer pays shipping prices are the same.

Somthing is off and the lack of visibility is odd. but the Chinese sellers seem to always be visible selling their junk.
