Sales dropped to zero?!

I’ve been selling for roughly 6 months, averaging 5-10 sales a day, got top seller quick and all of that. My sales suddenly dropped to zero earlier this week! What the hell eBay? Does the algorithm suddenly hate me? I haven’t changed my tactics at all. I started ending listings and relisting, still nothing. Help!!

LOL

My sales are also down.

I'm one of those weird sellers who chalks it up to ... maybe nobody wants to buy what I am selling right now.

Not even that...uh...weenie bear? 😁

Search function has serious, uncorrected problems.

Also the wonderful algorithm has zero tolerance for you changing ANYTHING in your typical behavior.  So don't decrease whatever you do, don't close your store temporarily, don't list less.

There are less discretionary funds outfor nonessential items, so this can hurt depending what you are selling.

Lets see the algorithm.

Until then all speculations and claims based on what you claim eBay said.

eBay management and employees have proven time and again to be habitual liars and you are relying on what they said. I literally have dozens of outright lies in just the recent messages from them.

A so called ex eBay employee would be bound by a non-disclosure agreement. The fact that she or he violated such an agreement would strongly suggest their word can't be trusted. Then of course eBay would never leak information through a supposed ex employee. This is after all is a company who intentionally imported large numbers of items from another site eBay owned during a past boycott of eBay to inflate listing numbers on eBay to cover up the boycott and keep their stock prices up. They called it another glitch. No, one or more persons had to program that to happen.

This is a company that misuses a 1969 UPU program designed to help poor people to instead line their own pockets and that of their Chinese Communist partners, causing USPS billions in loses and forcing American citizens to subsidize eBay and its CCP partners. They have repeatedly shown they have no conscience at all.

New sellers given a boost? That is funny. New sellers are are given higher shipping rates and a lower amount of free insurance which inhibits their ability to sell items as it means their items cost more.

Thats strange, because I set up another account. 250 items were uploaded using a 3rd party software, which indicates that the software can't even be used unless your account is 90 days old and sold 10 items.

All items were completely hidden from indexing for days all the the while eBay customer service was lying and stating its normal for items to take several days to be indexed. After one item sold they cancelled 249 of 250 listings and froze the account.

They told me I'd have to wait until next month to get another 250 listings. The money was then held. I certainly was not going to send the item out to unknown buyer with a frozen account - a perfect setup for a scam. I explained to the buyer what eBay did and listed the item in my regular eBay account that is more than 20 years old. eBay would not refund the fund the buyer but stated I need to show my good faith by funding the refund from my bank account or credit card. Then eBay told me the only way the buyer can get their money back was to file a item not received claim and told me to instruct the buyer to do that, after which eBay then tried to collect fees anyway. 100% Crooked Company. This account had the same contact information and same IP used on eBay for more than 20 years.

eBay best practices include free shipping, which will produce higher priced goods over calculated shipping. Free shipping is one of eBay's largest scams, which eBay has increasingly had to turn to compensate for a lower user base and sales. Their actual user base is even lower that what is states as there are millions of duplicate accounts owned by the same person as well as millions on abandoned or infrequently used account (i.e., they but an item or two every few years).

Making claims about how to beat eBay's algorithm is commonly used by scammers on YouTube to push their clams about being a eBay expert so you visit their YouTube channel, buy through their affiliate links and buy from them directly. Yet none of them can produce the algorithm.

Sales dropped to zero?!

I wish I had some clear advice for you.  I have about 120 items listed and my sales have also dropped to near zero.  I've ran anonymous web searches for items with similar titles to my items and have found that they (my items) are showing up.  This tells me that they are probably being seen.  But I wonder, if someone clicks the link to my item, are they being taken somewhere else?  Recently I lost my Top Seller status because I sent out four low priced items via stamp mail with no tracking and my "Tracking Uploaded" rating fell below 95%.  I wonder if this has affected my sales?  It's a shame because the only way to regain my Top Seller status is to sell items, and that isn't happening.  Maybe after 23 years of patience with ebay's whims, they would prefer that I go away?

Would you agree with the statement that we as consumers and as collectors should continue spending even during an economic crisis, the hard times and the inflation if we want to avoid our own jobs and businesses affected in the long run?

This summer's sales drop is unprecedented and is caused by all of the following factors: COVID-19, East Slavic War of 2014-2023, inflation, sudden increase of grocery prices, cost of living crisis.

Sales dropped to zero?!

I've been doing this now for 24yrs. Yes, sales are abnormally low, meaning well below the normal summer slow downs. I'm close to 40% below what I normally sell on all three stores with nearly 2,000 items.

So, despite the dismissive, apathetic and condescending responses from those who need to feel important, I can honestly tell you that IT'S NOT YOU, it's eBay.

Therefore, don't get discouraged. Just take advantage of this down time to prepare for the 4th quarter by listing as much as you can. Ignore the insensitive chatter from those who would rather gloat about their niche stores than offer sympathetic advice. Hopefully, eBay will figure it out soon. Until then, hang in there.

🙂

Sales dropped to zero?!

Don’t post less? Lol my basement can only hold so much merchandise. As a beginner I was getting that eBay love. Posting near daily to keep my listings at or above 100 items. I think when people see sales drop even after listing new items daily they get frustrated and either run out of space to store everything or just don’t feel the need to list something when things aren’t being sold. My father owns a flee market and asked me to sell his items for the winter months. He’s in his 70’s and doesn’t know much about selling online and obviously getting ready to retire doing the flee market. I took on his stuff in my eBay store. We agreed I’d get a certain percentage for the sales each payout. It’s basically a waste of time if things aren’t moving off the shelves. I’ve even started promoting listings and putting some of my own personal items up for auction and none of it helped. I have gotten that urge to pull every last single item and just thanking eBay for a great 5 month selling spree but it just isn’t profitable anymore. I was selling so much it almost became a full time job packing and shipping sometimes through the night because I do same day shipping hoping that draws in the customers. Lol it’s now like they just show my listings people in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, or other far away land’s because I do free shipping. They also claim doing their international shipping program adds millions of new potential buyers to hear listings. I get a few here and there but not as many as I was led to believe. And it’s not just sales but offers I’ve been receiving have dropped significantly. They should inform new sellers they’d be selling a lot at first but don’t be surprised after 5 or 6 months you probably need to find a new hobby lol or job if you thought this would support you.
