Sales drop off problem

Hi guys,

Like many of you I noticed a sudden drop in sales. I usually would sell 6 or 7 items a month then it was like someone turned the fawcett off In october.  The customers just disappeared. I have good merchandise and offer fair prices and tried the usual suggestions of lowering prices and changing the headers around to no avail. I have now figured out what the problem is for ALL of us. It's google. 8 out of 10 internet shoppers GOOGLE what they are looking for and purchase from one of the vendors presented. Ebay listings are not showing up but ironically POSHMARK listings are. When I google any item I carry none of my listings show up on google but Poshmark, Tradesy, and major retailers whose items are sold out do.  Something happened that caused ebay results not to show up no matter what search criteria I use. I could type in "Brahmin EBAY" and I still get nothing. If items don't show up how will customers find us? Most people don't think to shop ebay for fashion and will go to one of the retailers on the first page of google results. What did ebay do to cause this? And Do they plan to fix it? If 80% of internet traffic is going elsewhere then how will anyone including ebay make money?

Re: Sales drop off problem

i think i know what is going on. Because of bad Ebay policy for Ebay sellers, many of them were hurt and are looking to move somewhere. It causing Ebay drop in traffic in search results. By bad policy i mean seller's protection. After Ebay changed own feedback policy, they make all buyers only feel safe to leave any feedback they want, many times unfair and dishonest. Ebay never removes these comments , reffering on buyers opinion. When i saw drop in sales i got panicked, as i have  too many items to sell and my only selling platform was Ebay. Then i found Mercary, Etsy  and Poshmark and are not afraid to lose Ebay any more. Ebay still can get their sellers back and gain their trust again. I found out, that Mercary has very good practice with feedback. Buyers have 3 days to  file complaint and give feedback. After this period of time connection to transaction is reduced. And i think that that is fair practice. Why you need 2 month to give feedback if item came as described, in time and not damaged? Then Ebay has to use properly their seller's protection, as they almost never protect seller and in 99,9% buyers have their protection. So now sellers give back for their action. I think it is a time for Ebay think big.

Re: Sales drop off problem

Beef up your titles and descriptions. Don't use auction format for generic clothing. Work on brightening up your photos. Look through the listings of successful clothing sellers to find ways to improve your own listings.

Good night and good luck

Re: Sales drop off problem

Hi, I don't think Posh or even the Betsy are treated any differently in order to be seen on Google. It has to do with what platform you have your items listed. It is up to the platform to show your listings on google. Unless you want to pay google directly. So eBay is responsible for "paying" to have your items seen on Google. Been down this road a lot on this subject. I sell only on eBay. Having an eBay store starting in 2014 all my items were seen on google, then in mid 2018 no Google. For some unanswered reason, I now see my items in Google but there was a 2 month no items in Google. Then some switch was turned on and they are now back on Google. And you are right, a lot of Betsy, Posh, etc. even Amazon are there because they are probably paying the bill to get visibility.

Re: Sales drop off problem

9 out of ten of my items are not showing up on the Google search engine. When I first started on ebay ALL my items showed up and as a result I got 6-7 sales a month. Now I get a sale once every 45 days. It's crazy how fast it all dropped off.  Nothing has changed other than Google not posting my listings. Another issue I think is Ebay bucks. I got a message that says I can't use them until January. I'm sure all those watchers are waiting until January to use their free money and whatever gift cards they got for Christmas.  The set up here is anti-seller. Lowering prices does nothing.

Re: Sales drop off problem

My sales abruptly dropped off ,too. We all cant be making mistakes. I think google changed the algorithm to favor certain sites and get a bigger percentage.

Hi, @us2014-suema this thread is an old one from a year ago. You might consider opening a new one to stir the discussion. Mods tend to lock these old threads.
