Sales down by 60% this weekend

I've been selling here for over ten years. In the last year, I have consistently made 40 to 70 sales over the weekend.  My sales are down 60% this weekend. It's the worst weekend I've had in 8 years! Nothing has changed in my feedback, seller standing, policy violations, etc. Is anyone else experiencing a drastic drop in sales this weekend?

Yup. Could be Easter. Or, it could be that the thousands of unhappy buyers and sellers that eBay creates everyday has caught up.

Quiet as a country graveyard.

On the plus side I had an auction snipe set at $40 dollars that won at only $3.50.

The US west coast is seeing real weekend sun for the first time in over 3 months, maybe people looked up from their phones and went outside.

To the best of my knowledge, shopping on eBay is not quite the Easter tradition that marshmallow Peeps, peanut butter eggs and jelly beans are.

I don't have a high-enough sales rate to see meaningful rises or drops in sales, though just as a data point, I've had several sales this weekend.

One reason for a slump these days might be that people are scrambling to get their taxes done by April 18th, and are not really in a spending mood at the moment.

A lot of different religious holidays this entire week. I used to work in the retail business.

Things will return to normal but it happens again in around September 16th week...so prepare yourself for that week also. But that week would be a good week to eat out....restaurants will be dead.

Easy fix - All you need to do is capitulate to ebay's "recommendations" and start promoting your listings at 10% to 25% on top of the already outrageous final value fees to the point where you are willingly giving up an estimated 30% to 50% of your items selling price in fees to sell here - You should then see some improvement in sales, though keep in mind, this is likely a short term fix that you will need to adjust to keep up with the the changing "recommendations" not far down the road...

you have sold 350 items over the last 13 weeks

that comes out to 27 items a week so somewhere the math is not adding up to 40 to 70 sales per weekend unless you have another account.

thats still a decent sell thru rate for having 616 items

Sales down by 60% this weekend

Hi @biggerbulletsllc

What I have noticed for about 3 weeks running is that BIN items are not selling at levels they have in the past.  I think it has to do with eBay launching the PLA Beta and how PLS sales will be handled going forward.  Auctions have not been affected so I switched over 100 BIN listings to Auction and some of those items have sold already.

Saturday morning  I launched my 2nd quarter PLS campaign with 282 items on  it and only 2 sold over the weekend ... like you I see more BIN sales on weekends then during the week ... but even with the PLS only 2 BINs sold the entire weekend, the rest were Auctions.

When Sellers notice drastic changes in their sales the venue is most likely the reason ... I guess many Sellers need to accept the fact that whenever a major site change is rolled out sales will tank ... but hopefully not for too long ...

How do your Easter (and Passover and Ramadan) weekend sales compare to 2022? 2019? 2018? (Skip comps with 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic surge in online shopping).

Comparing next week to last week doesn't work.

Retail always comes and goes.

Today you spend refolding sweaters, tomorrow you get lunch at 4pm.

It was a holiday weekend for a lot of people and yes my eBay sales were slow but so were my items on the local forums which is not unusual over a holiday weekend. A lot of people are also probably crashing on their tax returns.  I expect things will pickup as the week goes along.

I had sales dump and then bounce back over the period of about the past week - it was odd as my sales are usually quite steady, despite being such a small seller and this was just a drop-out.  Despite feeling frustrated with this, I think it's a poor idea to track in such short ranges - I try to hit a monthly average, for instance, because it helps me to see longer range trends.

Probably the holidays were the reason behind the slow sales for you and others.  Who knows really, but when you look at economic climate and rumblings here and around the world, you may think it could be possibly something more than the holiday.  Gas prices are on the rise since oil production is being cut and my guess is people may not buy as much as before.  On the other side, people may not drive as much and decide to do more shopping from home.  Let's see what happens.
