Sales crash $6000 (40%) in 1 month. Not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 3 days.

Our "anchor store" sales have crashed and we have not had a single sale in the past 3 pre-Christmas holiday weekend days. We have 2000 mostly unique and 1 of a kind listings. No sales for 3 days has never happened before and our sales have risen approx 25% each month for the past 4 years. 3 hours on the phone with ebay "support" with no possible resolution. Nuf said.

"Wow, even at your 40% drop you are selling at a rate most of us would love to be at.
Kind of hard to empathize with you. Quit whining!"

Did you really have to try and humiliate another seller who is seeing a huge downshift in their sales? Maybe to you it looks grand, maybe to them it is the end of their store and how they live.

Never assume, and don't play the envy card here, people are seeking help, not another nail in the coffin.

Unfortunately people may not believe the prices were reduced. They may believe just a seller tactic to get buyers to believe they were lowered when they were not. I know better but they may not. See how it works for a day or so. Give it time. There are other things to do. 😎

I'm not an eBay employee.

I am curious, though. What is your opinion as to why your sales have dropped off suddenly?

Re: Sales crash $6000 (40%) in 1 month. Not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 3 days.

They began falling right after I strongly complained (in writing) about ebay unilaterally offering their "Handy assembly services" on all of my used items that did not need assembly. It did nothing but confuse my buyers and made them think that the item needed assembly and they needed to pay extra for it. That's when sales started dropping dramatically. There can be no other explanation for a 40% drop in sales (in 1 month) and not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 4 consecutive days before Christmas. The only other explanation is there is a technical issue which they refuse to acknowledge as a possibility or legitimately investigate.

When you complain about a sales decrease here, it's always the seller's fault (because their prices are too high, they don't give free shipping, their shipping is too high, shipping is too slow, they don't adapt fast enough to the "changing market", be grateful with what you have, etc). It's always the same template responses and it's never a possible issue on ebay's side because, 1. they don't make such mistakes, and, 2. because if they did, they could never admit it because of all the problems it would cause with their other sellers.

I have learned some valuable lessons though (none of which of course have been suggested as ebay responses here). Never rely on 1 platform to sell (particularly when they are an effective but declining monopoly) . Always shop around because as markets change, new and much cheaper platforms are popping up all the time. And most importantly, never criticize ebay in public.

We've resigned ourselves to the strong possibility that ebay has cut us off without a truthful explanation and we are proceeding accordingly. I just hope that I can find a quick alternative so that we can pay for our daughter's very expensive, life saving medication and my wife's upcoming heart surgery.

Please don't compare your selling prowess to ours because you will most likely be envious and disappointed.

I'm sorry if you are not able to hear the truth and that you think because we are legitimately complaining about something that we are personally attacking other underperforming sellers.  We never meant it that way and we hope that one day you will be able to forgive us for this gross abuse of your seller feelings.

Re: Sales crash $6000 (40%) in 1 month. Not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 3 days.

I believe that geographic visibility was part of the last update. I used to get orders from all over the west coast and midwest down to TX and FL. Now I rarely ever see a midwest order, Southeast is down significantly, but my CA, Oregon and WA orders are actually about the same rate. Especially on another selling profile. Selling the unique items does tend to help, but you really have to work harder on the relevancy to broaden reach on your unique antique items. You and I are definitely going to have to re-think out strategies.

I can tell you I try to avoid the high cost shipping items as buyers are really not keen on paying freight if they are not sure about a used item. I have them sit around way to long. I now do the local pick up only and let them arrange their own shipping.

If you can bring the shipping costs down for the buyers on some of the parcel post items, that might help. With the holidays, you definitely want to be offering FedEx and Prioirty Mail. You've got a nice selection and I don't feel like the pricing is out of line at all on your merchandise. The only thing that hit me as propective buyer was some of the shipping costs, but I don't typically buy large items so I don't have a lot of experience with shipping that kind of stuff.

Cheers

Nice call Jewel, I was just thinking the promoted listings are indeed pushing unpaid listing further down into the darker depths of page 2 and 3 which further compounds impressions, ctr and str. If using the promoted listing feature Christmas time would definitely be one of those times for heavy advertising spends which would do a lot to make your items disappear from potential buyers eyes.

Last year Thanksgiving day to Christmas day was over 6K. I believe this year it is going to be less than an average month in February....lol

So, I think we have a good idea, free shipping both ways, same day handling, guarantee delivery, pay 10 to 15% more to eBay for visibility, cut your prices to the bone and maybe eBay will allow you to net 5% on your merchandise while they gross 20 to 25% or more on your gross.... Not a good combination for a seller that wants to continue selling I think. I'll be happy with my bones and decent margins I believe.

You tell em. I am on my 4th or 5th sale since Thanksgiving ranging from 10 to 25% off. Crickets.

Only store that actually saw an uptick was a niche store and I don't know if the uptick was a pricing issue or they were gonna buy anyways. I just said to heck with it this morning and took almost 200 items down from that store and "Closed" the actual store with eBay. Balance of the items will expire when the store does.

I made up my mind that I am going to take those items and put them over on the singing boxes website next year. Every one of them is fully paid for relative my initial investment so I have 9 or 10K in profit or more sitting in crates on the shelf that I can't get views much less sales on eBay for them but I have sold thousands over the last year on consignment. Give me a nice opportunity to see how the platform works anyways.

Cheers

Ebay is manipulative.  I sold like crazy for awhile and then nothing.  They will list your items where they are readily accessible by search and conversely put them so far down in the basement where no one has the time to dig them out.  I am thoroughly disgusted.  Take your money and deligate you to the bottom of the barrel for no good reason.  The new ebay mantra....

I want to mention something else. On my recent CS call the "sales specialist" casually mentioned that people that are not geographically close to you DO NOT SEE YOUR LISTINGS. I said wait....WHAT!

I said please explain yourself. He said that if for example, you are on the West coast that your listing would be shown to people on the West coast and would be progressively less viewable as you move East. I asked him " so people on the East coast would rarely see my listings?" his answer was....YES.

He then proceeded to explain that ebay does not want customers to have to wait for their packages for too long and that shipping across the country made for less happy buyers. I was, and am, dumbfounded.

1.  We sell very  few items  in GA like 5 items out  of 1520 shipped -some to Fl. little to TN & AL

2.  We sell 46%  of our items to the Western states since started selling in 2010, meaning Colorada and states  west of there - mostly to California.

Re: Sales crash $6000 (40%) in 1 month. Not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 3 days.

I can tell you one thing, eBay will not admit to it but they must be in BIG trouble given their stock price. Our sales have plummeted 75% in 3 months while doing 20-30k in sales monthly for the past 10 years and this started in mid-October. We used to have tons of International sales and now that I read this comment about items not showing based on geographical location it makes perfect sense because we have not had an International sales in weeks and we used to have multiple per day all these years. I bet they're such deep  trouble that they are just trying things out of desperation and have broken the system completely since everyone is complaning of the same thing here for weeks: NO SALES

eBay not sure if you're reading these posts, or not paying attention or maybe you just don't care because you hope your big Chinese sellers will keep you afloat. Maybe it's time you START listening to the sellers and open the **bleep** faucet. Most of us had to let people GO right before Christmas because of NON EXISTANT sales. If this trend continues all of us will be forced out the door but trust me you will be paying the price as well in the long run.

Re: Sales crash $6000 (40%) in 1 month. Not 1 single sale out of 2000 listings in 3 days.

Hi, i hate to add more concerns to your already full load. I took a look at your listings and saw you are promoting your brick-and-mortar store in some of your descriptions. That skirts the “buying and selling off eBay” policy which reads:

“Not Allowed

  • In your listing page or in communications with another eBay member you can't refer to or promote your personal website (including links to home page web addresses that promote websites outside of eBay), sales outside of eBay, or other businesses...”

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/offers-buy-sell-outside-ebay-policy?id=4272

While the policy is somewhat vague, eBay still has been aggressively going after those members who they believe are violating it. Here on the boards, we’ve seen even innocent members caught up in it and get penalized. It is in your interests to remove that info from your listings as quickly as possible. Again, so sorry to be the bearer of this news.
