SMH

I just sold a item.  The buyer paid regular (domestic) shipping.  In the "notes" she writes "Please ship this to me in London, my address is..."

Heh... Smiley Happy True, although my experience is that given the choice, I find it easier to have a hard-copy manual on the workbench, as opposed to a downloaded PDF on a laptop. If the only copy I can find is on PDF, then okay, I'll download that, then print out the pages I need.

Back when I was going through estate sales every weekend, I found that for many gadgets that were still in working order, I could download the user guide from the manufacturer's website (even going back years; many companies are scanning their old product guides and putting them on-line), print that out, and throw it in as a free bonus with the gadget itself. (It  was also a really useful way to learn how to test it myself before listing it.)

Re: SMH

Be careful of cancelling the transaction without the confirmation of the buyer that he/she agreed to cancel it. Since there are sellers who are abusively avoiding the defects in the account and just cancelling the transaction without a valid reason and without the approval of the buyer ebay is now reviewing all the cancellation and sooner or later it will be taken against your defect and might be a cause for you eBay account to be below standard.

If you would encounter a buyer who is requesting the item to be delivered to different address.. that would be alarming.. There is a possibility that the buyer’s account was compromised and the hacker is asking you to shipped out to a different address which you wont be protected.

2nd scenario if you would ship out the item in a different location than what ebay is asking you, if the buyer would open a case for item not received, the case will be in favor to the buyer since you wont be protected if you shipped it out to a different location.

But yes you can cancel the transaction (with buyer agreeing to it) and relist the item with the correct shipping address.

Re: SMH

Yes, the buyers confirmed PayPal address is a Florida address.  The message to the seller was - can you ship it to me in London.

I finally got ahold of her and she said it's ok to ship it to Florida.

About the owners manuals. I work at a power equipment store. We've thrown out hundred if not thousands of manuals throughout the years.  Little did i know that people will actually buy them.

I'm convinced that you can list just about anything on ebay and somebody, somewhere, will eventually buy it.

Dear Buyer

I am more than happy to send this item overseas. But in order for me to do that you will need to cancel this transaction and repurchase this item being sure to select eBay's Global Shipping Service. Unfortunately I have no way to process a Global Shipping Service order until you the buyer selects that service for yourself during checkout. Ebay has very stringent rules and policies in place governing how these types of international orders are processed. Thank you for shopping on eBay.

@go-bad-chicken The seller has to opt into the global shipping program. The buyer can not choose it during checkout, that’s not how it works. It’s the seller that opts into the GSP, buyer has no control over it. If the seller opts into the GSP and the listing has it enabled then its automatically a GSP transaction for international buyers using international addresses, they dot choose it during check out 🙂

The OP is a GSP seller, but the buyer originally used a domestic address and received domestic shipping at checkout, but then messaged the OP to ship the item to them in London, England. At this point the OP has no way to legitametly process this order or purchase postage through the GSP.

That is why I posted the suggestions and worded it the way that I did.

Well the wording was way off and instructed the buyer incorrectly. The OP should only tell the buyer to use his international address.

From the OP:

"I just sold a item.  The buyer paid regular (domestic) shipping.  In the "notes" she writes "Please ship this to me in London, my address is...""

What would you do?

The deed is done and the buyer has already paid. As a seller you really do not know what the buyers intentions were. Was it an honest mistake on the buyer's part? Probably or at least I would like to think so and give the buyer the benefit of the doubt. Or was it intentional on the buyer part? Probably not but you never know. The buyer could be a part of that 1% of buyers who feels entitled to receive anything and everything that they request after the fact from sellers. It is also possible that the buyer was attempting to circumvent customs and duties fees by not using the OP's stated GSP International Shipping Service. That is just speculation on my part, but know one knows what is in the mind of a buyer at the time that they purchase an item.

Unless the OP wants to pay for International Shipping out of their profits, they have two a) cancel the transaction on their end, selecting "problem with the address", and deal with the work that that entails. or b) get the buyer to realize their mistake and cancel the transaction themselves and then repurchase the item THIS TIME selecting the correct GSP Shipping Service.

The statement that I suggested to the OP is not an incorrect one, from my perspective. If a buyer wants something shipped to London, England but has only paid for domestic shipping, they need to go back, request the seller to cancel the order, and then re-purchase the item selecting the correct type of International Shipping Service (GSP). In this particular case the OP is a GSP participant. eBay does not like its sellers to attempt to circumvent the GSP program when they have sold an item which has the GSP listed as its stated International Shipping Service.

The buyer does not select GSP shipping service. The buyer selects an international shipping address and GSP shipping is automatically applied.

If they hadn't paid for it, they could have requested an invoice which would take them out of the GSP so that the seller could ship it cheaper to England themselves.
