SELLING ON EBAY--A tiny rant about eBay's "trick".

Not to be a negative nancy....but I have just spent $20 on the last FIVE listings I've submitted. Yes, you read that right. This is not the first time this has happened to me, either. You're grinding out the content...trying to generate more sales for yourself (and I should mention more for ebay ALSO), and you notice a $4.10 charge *right* after you click "submit listing". You pray and pray that was the first and only BOLD TITLE checkmark you've accidentally clicked, but no....it's been five.

In part, I totally understand this is my fault---I'm listing too fast, and I'm not going over the fine print. I'm not new to this. BUT is eBay at all to blame? Right by the item title...which you have to click on (sometimes multiple times to edit). This feels like an old-fashioned swindler's trick. If I am going to spend a frivolous $4 on a listing I feel I should have to go out of my way to make that happen...it just feels like cheap trickery. Anyone else do this and cry later?

EBAY IF YOU'RE LISTENING AT ALL--1. I heart you.   2. Please move the dang check box.PLEASE.

Your's isn't the only "TRICK", someone (I bet you can't guess who) is check marking the box "MAKE OFFER" on my listings when they don't sell and are relisted. I never take offers (20 years on ebay) as I know what I paid and I know what they should sell for, certainly an ebay employee would have NO knowledge of these entities.  Also, I am sick of the ebay message "OFFER FREE SHIPPING", if I have to pay shipping I would not sell on this venue, I shipped a package last week, it was $42.00, it would be better if ebay paid the shipping and that's a fat chance or when cows fly.  bubba

At least the Best Offer isn't costing you money.

Ebay would do best to keep their noses clean and make things easy for sellers. Sneaking things in and putting extra cost boxes close to other fields is not a nice thing to do.

BUT is eBay at all to blame?

Sure they are.....eBay's "share" of the blame 0.01%, sellers share of the blame 99.9%

eBay should cough up that 2 cents!

At least not until they start sneaking in auto accept on the sellers' behalf.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

No it isn't. But I'm sure it's intentional. Another reason to use a 3rd party listing program local to your computer.

I use SixBit. $19.99 a month for basic subscription (you stop paying, they stop giving you service), it's $22.99 if you don't want their advertising as part of your listings.

For the occasional seller, this is unfathomable as an expensive. (That's why Turbolister was so good). But my time is money, and I don't want to waste it on eBay's web form.

Cheers, C.

That's why I use the basic Wonderlister subscription for 5 bucks a month.

Turbo Lister is still working fine for me, and seems to still be getting updates.  Go figure.

So your complaint is that the checkbox for an optional feature that affects the title is located near the title?

I've been reading this board daily for almost a decade - this is the first time I have heard a seller complain that this is confusing.

I guess I need the "Ebay listing for idiots" version, lucky.

FYI I don't think it's confusing...I think it's very "convenient". Despite what your opinion of me is, I know how to check and uncheck a box. Thanks for the support, as always. 🙂

No It's probably not you. While I have not had the exact same issue that you are experiencing with the BOLD TITLE checked. I have experienced other features being checked and un-checked on eBay for the past 16 months or so.

For about 12 months anytime I revised, re-listed, or used the sell similar feature using either my Android tablet or my I Pad the Gallery Plus would automatically be checked. That problem appears to have gone away. Knock on wood.

But I have a current ongoing issue, that whenever I use the bulk edit or bulk relist feature, using my Windows 7 Pro PC, eBay un-checks all my International Shipping services. Since almost day one of selling here on eBay I have offered 4 separate International Shipping services on 98% of my listings. Now I have to go back and check every single re-list or sell similar listing once the listings have been indexed. About 60% of them have had the International Shipping services removed.

And the there is the other ongoing issue that happens about once a month where eBay likes to go in and un-check or remove all of my "Auto-Decline" features on my Best Offer listings. I can always tell because I start to receive offers at 30% off, 40% off, 50% off, or greater of my asking price; from all of the low ballers and dart throwers.

Yes I have had this happen too! I do not understand it... it seems to be completely random also. It will just remove the price I have setup and enter the standard/default 50% price (if it's a $20 item, the auto reject will be $10), or sometimes it removes it completely.

So frustrating! Smiley Mad

Yes indeedy it's extremely frustrating.

I can only guessestimate and speculate here, but I believe that this particular little gem of a feature has been purposefully perpetrated and executed by eBay. It started occurring on a regular basis late last summer/early fall when eBay started to impose the best offer feature on all of the other sellers who did not already use the Best Offer. Coincidence? stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye Or a conspiracy of epic proportions that reaches into and firmly grips the highest levels of our very own government?open_mouth

eBay is Helping Boost Conversion with Best Offer on Auctions and

Fixed Price Listings

And here is the truly frustrating part of this whole glitch/eBay Sales Conversion Feature, you can't even blame or be mad at the Low Baller/potential buyer, when this occurs. Because the Low Ballers are just doing what Low Ballers do, and that is to roll through the eBay listings within their favorite preferred categories and throw some darts in hopes that one or two of them ends up sticking.  Most Low Ballers are just poor innocent bystanders who would through the normal  course of actions here on eBay be hit in the face by the majority of sellers's immediate Auto Decline "you shall not pass, please try again" message.

They did not do anything wrong but, yet they find themselves on the wrong end of the lodge pole with a grumpy seller like myself Man Mad who then proceeds to give the poor unsuspecting Low Baller, a rundown of 20 questions, in an attempt to figure out how the F*#% they got through my Low Baller Firewall. AND then low and behold, I go and check my listing and come to find out that eBay did me the small kind favor of un-checking my auto decline feature for me. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!tired_face

Someday I am going to get the chance to re-pay eBay with all of these small and kind favors that they constantly seem to find the time, to shower upon me; by paying my monthly selling fees with a bucket full of loose and un-rolled nickels, pennies, and dimes.

And I will be taking that bucket home with me, at the end of our transaction. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!laughing
