SELLER FEES

EVERYONE HAS IT WRONG. EBAY IS CHARGING SELLERS FEES ON TOP OF WHAT THE PRODUCT SELLS FOR. EX, YOU SELL AN ITEM FOR $100.00.. IF TAX TO THAT STATE IS 10% EBAY ADDS THAT COST INTO THE TOTAL VALUE. NOW YOUR ITEM IN THEORY SOLD FOR $110.00. THEN IF YOU ITEM COST FOR SHIPPING IS $10.00, EBAY ADDS THAT INTO THE TOTAL SALE. THUS YOU ARE NOW AT $120.00

SO EBAY IS ARTIFICIALLY INFLATING YOUR SALE PRICE. WHY ARE WE PAYING FEES ON $120.00? WHEN OUR ITEM SOLD FOR $100.00?  BECAUSE ITS EBAYS PLATFORM AND UNTIL THERE IS BETTER COMPETITION WE WILL SUFFER.

ON TOP OF THAT, EBAY NOW CHARGES U A PROMOTIONAL FEE RATE. THAT RATE CAN BE ANYWHERE  FROM 2-20% ON TOP OF THE FEES EBAY ALREADY CHARGES.

Re: SELLER FEES

To the best of my knowledge, eBay's fees are clearly detailed for the seller's reading pleasure and can be read BEFORE any seller ever lists anything for sale on eBay.

It would probably be nice if the FVF was only based on the item price, but it's clear that that is not the way the fee schedule is set up.

How is eBay "getting sneakier and sneakier every day" when the fees, as mentioned above are clearly outlined for anyone including any seller to read?

Best of luck when you find your new platform for selling.  Would caution you to be sure to read the fee schedule before you begin listing on that venue.

Re: SELLER FEES

If people are that mentally taxed by reading caps, maybe they should welcome that mental exercise.  Seriously - all cap posts aren’t difficult to read.  If they are a significant challenge, that’s between the reader and a healthcare provider to discuss.

Don't forget to add that Ebay also shorts sellers by calculating their selling fee charges based off of item cost, shipping, TAX and handling fees. When the final value fees should only be based off of item cost. I called eBay out on this once. They are getting sneakier and sneakier every day. I might start exploring other platforms as well. Since the last Ebay update non of my items have been selling when I used to sell 3-4 items a week and my prices have not changed 😑

Good luck finding a platform that doesn't base their fee's on the total amount the buyer pays.

Have a great day.

Factor in the fees before you list - not after you sell - and then you can decide whether to sell your items here or someplace else.

Re: SELLER FEES

I don't mind eBay charging for the tax.  The collect tax and distribute it to the proper States.  I am just glad I don't have to do that.  What a pain in the neck it would be.

Re: SELLER FEES

It is what it is!  When they force us onto fedcoin, and the taxes and fees and service advice are automatically taken out without option, Ebay won't have much validity in putting a fee on that because that tax will be transferred directly from your fedcoin account to the taxing authority blockchain.

The two main reasons for charging FVF on shipping are (1) to avoid discouraging sellers from offering free shipping;

And for the hard of thinking;  Free Shipping means that the cost  of shipping is included in the asking price of the item.

Which is cheaper? A $100 item with $10 shipping or a $110 item with Free Shipping?

No offense is meant BUT I do roll my eyes everytime I see this false example used on this selling forum.

"Which is cheaper"

A $100 item with $10 shipping or a $110 item with Free Shipping?"

Answer and for the win!

Drum Roll.......................................................................................................

......The $110 item with Free Shipping.

Why?

Because 46% of the US population lives in a state where sales tax is not applied to the shipping portion of any given transaction.

So for example let's say a buyer from the state of California (9% sales tax) buys the $110 item with Free Shipping will now pay $9.90 in sales tax whereas if they had purchased the $100 item with $10 shipping, they would have only pay $9.00 in sales tax.

Yes FREE SHIPPING WILL COST 46 % OF YOUR BUYERS AND YOU, MORE MONEY!

So in this example your "Free Shipping" cost that California buyer $0.90 more..... AND it cost you the seller about $0.12 more in FVF, because now your paying FVFs on that extra $0.90 of sales tax collected by eBay.

For me 6% to 10% is not really a tiny bit. But that's just me. In my experience I have found that the sentiment that Free Shipping only costs seller's buyers a "tiny bit" of more money generally comes out of the mouth of a seller who lives in a state where sales tax is charged on sales tax, and therefore their perspective is biased. But if your a part of the 46% of the US population and you live in one of the states that has no sales tax applied to shipping you get annoyed and resentful when your only choice is free shipping.

That's why if wishes were horses 🐎  then I'd wish that eBay would allow buyers to rate a seller's "Free Shipping" Shipping Costs DSR. That would be a really good step in changing both seller's and the eBay management's philosophy and its mindset regarding "Free Shipping"

Well, the $100 with $10 shipping will be a teeeny bit cheaper for buyers who live in states that charge sales tax but not on shipping.

OOPS! I responded to the wrong post. Sorry about that. Now it's fixed.

Or if you don't live in the middle of the country. Nine times out of ten, I find that items with free shipping will cost me more than ordering something from someone local who charges calculated shipping because I live on the coast.

Sorry, you lost me there. What would buyers be rating about a seller's Free Shipping?

Exactly. Unfortunately it's a slow arguuos uphill battle changing seller's as well as eBay's mindset, and convincing them that charging for shipping is good for business because it's good for their prospective buyers.

Sorry, you lost me there. What would buyers be rating about a seller's Free Shipping?

Due to eBay's agenda sellers who offer Free Shipping receive an automatic 5 star DSR for the "Reasonable Shipping Costs" DSR. Buyers are unable to rate that DSR when Free Shipping is provided. But that in turn disenfranchises buyer's who wish to rate that seller's shipping cost DSR and say for example wants to give that seller a 3 star rating for that transaction due to the fact that that Free Shipping cost them more money because of additional sales tax expense incurred because of the Free Shipping.

Personally I don't really believe that that the shipping costs DSR should exist at all. If a buyer selects a particular listing with its associated shipping costs then that should be that. But as long as it does exist then Free Shipping should be allowed to be rated just like a listing that charges for shipping and not get an automatic 5 star pass.

Fair is fair.

$5.45 of $6 is 91% .  The way your chart is set up is showing the shipping as an expense but the buyer paid the shipping cost.

That would be because shipping IS an expense / cost.  The amount the buyer paid for shipping [if any] is included in the total sale price.

I do think however that @dbfolks166mt  should change the "Total Cost" at the top of their form to be Sale Price as it is not a cost, well I guess it is for the buyer, but the form isn't regarding that, it is to spell out the costs to a seller.

I would but the seller costs are based on what the buyer paid so that is the starting point.

I understand your schedule and that wasn't what I was commenting to.  I was pretty clear in my post, or I thought I was.

It wasn't that obvious to me or I missed something. Are you talking about this line?

Lets just try it again.  I highlighted it above.  It is the only area on your schedule that you had a spot called Total Cost.  Sorry it was confusing.
