Revenge Feedback?

Did you know that eBay allows users to leave retaliatory negative feedback as revenge? Even though the negative feedback isn’t an authentic sharing of the users actual experience and just a spiteful attack on your store? Should that be allowed?

I bought a shirt from some user and it was described as new but it came without tags and covered in pet hair so I left negative feedback that said simply “not as described.”

This user then, in what to me seems like borderline stalker behavior, bought the cheapest item I had available in my store just so they could leave negative feedback that said simply “not as described.”

They verbatim left the same exact feedback for me as I left for them, the difference though is that my product arrived to them exactly as described.

I asked eBay to remove the feedback and even though this user verbatim copied my feedback, and didn’t upload any photos that showed what they got wasn’t as described, and informed that it was revenge feedback and not the sharing of an authentic experience eBay did not remove the feedback.

How do you feel about that being acceptable behavior by user in the eyes of eBay? I’d like to hear from the people about this.

Glad to hear that your experience with sellers has all worked out to be positive.

Not all of us can say the same.  And, believe me, once you have tried to work out a NAD situation with a seller, and have had a bad experience, from then on, you simply open the appropriate case without contacting the seller first.

Incidentally, eBay doesn't require that a buyer contact the seller before opening a case.

I second your sentiments. The days of the very RARE bad seller are over. Lots of bad sellers now a days on this platform. If a seller does a bad job, I don't bat an eye about deserved feedback. I don't bat an eye about opening a case either. If a seller is honest about the description, packs decently and ships timely, there is rarely a problem ever. However there seems to be a LOT of sellers anymore that can't do those very basic things. Too many sellers "feel" they need coddled and are self entitled.

You have left negative feedbacks for 13 sellers in a row, and twelve of them had the same comment "not as described". That doesn't seem very  plausible, or likely, or appropriate

Amazing how some people are. A hypocrite is someone who holds others to a standard or behavior that they themselves do not follow.

Not that I would ever do such a thing but I sincerely hope that this makes any buyer who is also a seller think twice before leaving negatives for fellow sellers.

They allow so-called 'buyers' to do that.

They don't allow us sellers to defend ourselves.

A trend these days.

I don't believe I have left bad feedback for a fellow seller on here either, but the amount of things I've bought, vs the amount of time I've been here is ridiculously low. I normally do not buy much except for some supplies on here. I guess we have both been lucky in buying from good sellers!

You seem to be assuming that all buyers that leave negative FB are bad buyers?

While sellers are not allowed to leave retaliatory FB, that was never a defense in the first place, they can respond to the FB that a buyer leaves.

It is in the seller's best interest to respond to it professionally and factually as anything less looks horrible to potential buyers.

Revenge Feedback?

Hi @sockpuppet69420blazeit

-eBay considers a Buyer and Seller on a transaction as "Trading partners".  eBay encourages them to try to work things out before taking action, like leaving less than Positive Feedback.

-Sellers who use the No returns accepted setting often set themselves up to possibly receive less than Positive Feedback.  While experienced Buyers know the eBay return reasons that bypass the No returns accepted setting others do not so they "think" they have no recourse other than to leave less than Positive Feedback.

-No returns accepted has its place but not as a general return policy selection, it would be fine for two of eBay's Grading system settings:

-Junk value - parts only

-Restoration required

-Sellers can take advantage of more flexibility for returns via their Seller protections and offering 30 Day Free returns yields the highest level of protection available.  Seller protections | eBay

You have a very young account to be that unhappy with soooooooo many purchases.  I would recommend going to a store in person to purchase your items as no seller wants to deal with that type of buyer.  A buyer who is unhappy and will continue to just leave negative feedbacks that give no information other than "not as described".  In a lot of cases these are peoples livelihoods you are messing with.  The few sellers who responded to your negative feedbacks are asking what wasn't as described which would indicate you never reached out to any of them or try to rectify anything.  If you are that unhappy that many times in a row, I would gather it isn't the product you purchased that is the problem but rather the purchaser.

Maybe you packaged this product after 4:20.  These things are bound to happen 🙂

You bring up a very good point, in that it IS a very young account.  I've never seen so many negs received and left with a feedback score of 30.

To the OP, judging by the feedback you received, and those that you left, a random person looking at your account will just see a bad buyer or a seller, to deal with and nothing retaliatory. Ebay will not remove any of those feedbacks, as they reflect the buyers' experiences with you. Best to just respond professionally, move on, and do better for your future customers. Good luck to you.
