Why is it when something doesn't fit, we, the seller has to pay for shipping the item back.  I put sizes and measurements in the clothes listings, but more specifically, I recently sold an item for a refrigerator.  buyer stated "it doesn't fit, but it should", but now I have to pay for shipping the item back to me.  I don't feel this is how it should be as I clearly state measurements on EVERYTHING!

It is not "fair" but a seller is forced to accept a return.  The buyer can claim the item is not as described, and there we go.  You know you described the measurements well.  As a buyer, one should know buying clothing online is a risk.  However, buyers are so accustomed to the liberal return policies of other companies they expect the same from eBay sellers.  eBay sellers that certainly are not in the same sales category as the liberal return policy companies.

This is what is causing so many sellers to leave, from what I have read in these forums.

Returns

Ecommerce has evolved to most returns being free returns. Try to cover these costs in the price your buyers pay for items so that at the end of the year it is at least close to a break-even deal with the returns.

If you are offering free returns in your listing, you will pay return shipping for any reason. You may want to change that to buyers pay returns. That will cover you in buyer's remorse cases, like it doesn't fit. Of course,  you'll still pay for NAD cases.

@reuseitpros

If you don't want to pay the return shipping, don't offer free returns.

If you accept returns, they can return it for any reason.

Niche into a catagory with a low return rate I think I had one return opened by mistake by a buyer this year who did not know what he was doing. Otherwise this year I had zero returns.
