Returned from vacation and...

Hello, I put my store on vacation mode and was gone for a few days.  I then turned the store back on once I returned.  Now, for what seems like an eternity (actually a week or so), I have not had one sale since with over five hundred items listed.  It feels like a punishment of some sort.  In the past, sales would pick back up pretty quickly.  Anyone else experience this?  And why would this happen?

Store stuff has to get re-indexed.  It takes longer than normal.

No it doesn't.  Whether or not you have a store doesn't determine how long it takes to re-index.  Re-indexing takes up to 24 hours for all listings.

The metals and coins guys always used to talk about the summer doldrums.

But I'm puzzled, what is this thing you call 'vacation'?   English is a difficult language, and yes I have spoken it all my life, but that word I do not know.

It is a wait if out.     It will get better.

I'm just wondering if you allowed sales during your time away or if you didn't?

I always allow sales during mine and have never had a problem. I do know that it takes a few days for your store to reboot after turning it back on. I'm wondering if it takes a little longer if you cease sales during it. Maybe someone here knows that.

As others have said, it is vacation time for everyone so that could very well be it. Even I'm spending way less time at the computer and want to be outside. Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your time away.

Hello and thanks for your response.  I put my store on vacation a couple of days before we left, which I generally do.  In the past it only took a day or two to get rolling again once we returned.  This time it took several more days.  That is what was alarming to me.  I appreciate your kind words.  Many come on here just to badger posters it seems.  Hope you have a profitable summer and rest of the year!

Thanks for your reply. No, I did not allow sales while we were gone.  But I am sure gonna do it next time for sure.  I assume you just have to get everything mailed on the first weekday after returning to not get dinged.  Am I thinking correctly?  Thanks again!

I've actually had it take several days for sales to start up again even during busy seasons. My feeling is that you can't predict and not to worry about it, but keep a longer view.

I don't allow sales if I'm gone more than a week, if I'm gone only on a very short holiday of a week or less, I'll put the store on time away*, and it indicates to buyers that the seller is away and when items will ship. I also set up the automatic message if anyone writes. That way I'm covered. I'm often out of cell/wi-fi range for days at a time even on those little short trips as I go into the high mountains or back country, so the auto message is helpful.

*ETA: But I do allow sales.  That is something to consider if you're not gone for too long.

That is likely to be completely dependent upon how long you are going to be away.  You can use Time Away for up to 30 days.

You have 20 listing which from perspective is a very narrow market. With times harder than last year my suggestion is to try and branch out with more listing. Keep the listing you have active and just add more. Good Luck!
