What is going on with ebay I keep getting retracted bids and my friend is getting bids from people with 0 feedback and they are not paying

You have no retractions on this ID. How many do you have on another ID that you consider excessive? Some consider 2 , others consider more than than three or four. What is your tolerance level?

With the internet having so much stuff available, there are more people who excessively bid on too many items. They then pick and choose what they actually want. Not saying it is right, but it has become more of the norm. All you can do is set your selling limits to not allow habitual retractors.

Auctions.
What are they even for at this point?
Just list as buy it now. And require immediate payment.

Yeah what's going on with ebay?
Why do they let people with "0" feedback join?

Neither auctions or BIN are a silver bullet for a seller. Auctions are best suited to items that are unique or have a wide range in value. I have had auctions where what I though the item was worth and set the starting price at sell for considerably more than that. The down side to auctions is a buyer may be bidding on several auctions for the same item and will ultimately purchase and pay for the one that has the lowest price when the auction completes and retract the bids on the others.
You will never get anymore than your asking price for a BIN item, unless it's some type of scam attempt but rather than retracting the bids the buyer either requests the cancelation of the sale or simply either refuses the shipment when it arrives or opens a NAD case in which case the seller is stuck with the return shipping.
BIN is fine for commodity items but because a number of changes have leveled the ecommerce playing field and competition across platforms has increased I have found when I am looking for something I need eBay is often not the bargain site it once was and I can find it elsewhere for a better price, which often includes at a B&M store.
The thing I like most about auctions is how it fits into my other activities. All my auctions end on the same day, Sunday, and generally most buyers pay before the end of the day which allows me to pack and ship everything on Monday and make one trip to the post office. With BIN it is hard to say what day the item may sell on and how many days I would have to juggle other activities around to handle individual shipments.

Have to agree with you 100%. I have seen several posts lately where a buyer requested a return simply because they found it cheaper somewhere else. I believe there is also a lot more buy it, try it, return it taking place these days.

Avoid auction style listings. They attract scammers and sport bidders who simply don't pay. List all your items at a fixed buy it now price w/ immediate payment required checked by the payment methods. Sport bidders and scammers usually steer clear of these types of listings and in the long run listing the way I suggested there will be a lot less headaches. Good luck.

Agree with you on the sport bidders not so much on the scammers. Scammers tend to target high value items regardless of whether it is an auction or a BIN. BIN may even be easier for them since they can run the scam quicker and don't have to wait for the auction to end.

Was participating in a recent online auction that had a 25% buyers premium added to the selling price. There was a Colt 45 on the auction that had a estimated value of about $1,500 with the 25% premium on top of that. Starting price was at around $1,100.00 minimum buyer was willing to accept. Final sale price.

Consistently poor advice. BIN will stop the sport bidders since there is nothing to actually bid on and it may dissuade some scammers it does not stop them. As I have stated before if I was a scammer I would by all means target BIN items and avoid having to wait for an auction to end. Cancel requests are becoming as common place as retracted bids. I used to use BIN but seldom do these days as most of my problems were associated with BIN. Requests for cancelation, return requests and a number of scam attempts were far more frequent when I used BIN. A lot of it depends on what you are selling and the commonality of the item.
Since I use auctions I they also all end on the same day and I don't have to worry about constantly monitoring activity and the potential for a daily routine of packing and shipping as I did with BIN. I am a small seller and do this more for a side activity. For larger sellers and businesses that is probably not as much of a concern but I tend to enjoy my free time.

We had 2 returns like this over the Holidays and both Buyers paid (their dime) to ship them back to us - seemed to us that would negate the "found it cheaper" deal, but whatever. Both sold for more (I raised the BIN price when relisted) than the first time, so all good for us, I guess. Just discouraging - we are never the cheapest price (at least not on purpose).
