Reshipper / USPS Problem

Greetings All:

Buyer purchased Item w/ address listed as a reshipper out of Delaware located on 12 McCullough Dr which is notorious for scammers. Against better judgement, and because item was not expensive, went ahead and shipped Sept. 17, 2018. Checked back on item's progress Sept. 24 to find it registered checked in Sept. 20 at the DE USPS Facility Distribution Ctr., but no further information.

Called the USPS next day 25th to inquire about package & started a case. This caused the tracking status of the package to be changed to: "In Transit To Next Facility. Your package will arrive later, but on its way." Received a call from local PO who said they would go out to Reshipper to check if package was there and not scanned in. Next day 26th local PO called back to say couldn't find package at the Reshipper & that I should file missing mail claim, which I did. I also find it very coincidental out of all packages I've sent this one going to this particular Reshipper dropped down some mysterious Black Hole. (Reshipper might not be the cause, just the one taking the blame is another thought.)

Today received the kissoff letter from the USPS which to quickly summarize: Your package is lost ... traveling uninsured First Class, so no reimbursement ... we're done ... have a nice day.

So, how best to proceed? Wait for buyer to contact about item or just contact buyer with info & refund.

Re: Reshipper / USPS Problem

Wait for the buyer to contact you.   The package probably was delivered to the facility but not scanned - this is very common.  It is probably on its way to the buyer now, or maybe has even been delivered, and the buyer has no idea any of this drama even happened.  If it turns out that he didn't get his package, he will let you know.

Especially a apparently USPS has taken to giving large reshippers their own scanners.

Yes, in this way it can: The correlation of the buyer & Ebay seeing the tracking information stating it is still "In Transit" instead of "Delivered" can cause the seller under Ebay Guidelines to have to make whole a buyer, if dishonest, for an item they may have received.

If they track their packages, they do. And if they are dishonest, they can get reimbursed for an item they may have as there is no "Delivered" status to the package.

I had a buyer who told me they liked to track their packages' progress  from drop off to delivery & every handoff in between. Thought that was a bit odd, but a couple of days later I got an email from buyer informing the package had been turned around & heading back to me. After calling USPS it was determined the package had been attempted to be delivered at an almost identical address, so it was determined that the address was wrong and they were going to return to sender. Luckily, the problem was caught quickly, & the package was still at the regional facility, so they were able to get it delivered without sending it all the way back. They must have had that problem w/ the similar address before & that's why they liked to track so closely. But, unknown to them, that was the first time USPS missed a package pickup. So knowing that this buyer was so attentive to tracking & had promised package off w/ the day's mail, I just got it to the PO in time make the last truck out for the day at 4pm.

Re: Reshipper / USPS Problem

If you (and the PO) think the package is truly lost, file a missing package claim. Include all the details of the package. Have the package sent back to YOU if it is found.  You can edit it online if you've already filed one and di didn't do so.  https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm

If/when the buyer files an INR you will have to refund if you have no delivery scan.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

PO has sent a letter stating: "We must reluctantly conclude that the item is irretrievably lost." So they've said they are done looking. Were it reshipped & on the way to the buyer that would put it out of USPS control/reach and altering the missing mail form completed would be of no help, is this true?

oooh, so they did actually conclude the search? That was fast Smiley Frustrated

I just logged in and checked on an old search request I had - once it's closed, there is no other way to re-open or edit it. You have no way to know if the reshipper even received the item. It could very well be lost, or the reshipper could have received it and sent it on since there was not a delivered scan. Both scenarios are plausible and there is no way to know which one is actually what happened.

You'll have to refund the buyer when/if they open an INR.

Re: Reshipper / USPS Problem

Seemed fast to me too ... and the local PO was VERY insistent I fill out the Missing Mail Form ASAP. But w/ a reshipper involved, there's another entity to pass the blame onto and call it a day. In the end, it will all roll down to the seller. (Insert poo emoji w/ flies circling.)

Well... the reshipper's address is the one to which you have to prove delivery, so I hope that "pass the blame onto and call it a day" doesn't mean that you think they will refund the buyer, or anything like that.

As the others have said, don't say anything to the buyer. It is entirely possible that it slid through the system without a final Delivery scan at the reshipper's place, and he received it anyway.

Re: Reshipper / USPS Problem

Not at all. As I stated previously, blame all rolls down to the seller.

The PO doesn't have to be bothered w/ the problem any further because there is another entity to blame, the reshipper is what I meant there. Seller always gets the blame and w/o proof of delivery will have no recourse.
