Requiring 4 days for a buyer to pay is way too long

Ebay's rule of waiting for 4 days for a buyer to pay before cancelling is ridiculously long. Should be 48 hours.

If buyers are required to pay right now, sellers should also be required to ship right now.  Immediate payment required  should trigger same day/next business day required shipping from the seller.

Wondered if someone was going to mention this - it has came up before.  lol

It is true - what is good for the goose and all that.

Especially as it is harder for a buyer to discern a Seller's true handling time now.  Hidden under the shipping details/calc tab on the listing.  We have a 2-day handling time, but almost always ship much sooner.  Buyers do expect a Seller to ship ASAP regardless of "when" they paid for it.

@femmefan1946  Do you have to record your credit card number before you can buy from WalMart?

No, but you have to pay immediately - I doubt Wally World will just hold something for 4 days until the buyer gets around to maybe paying for it.

eBay can do better with this.

Re: Requiring 4 days for a buyer to pay is way too long

Seems like the OP has an overdeveloped sense of seller entitlement and is just seeking preferential treatment for self.  I always pay within hours, if not minutes after a win. Maybe a 48  to 72 hour window  to complete payment might be more realistic than 96 hours , but I brought this up because I am and will continue to be an advocate for equal treatment of buyer and seller alike!  The old adage is "good for the goose, good for the gander".  Ebay also needs to show us in the listings what the seller's ACTUAL handling time is  like they used to do years ago so that I, as a buyer, can decide not to even buy from the slow one! The reason I have never been a seller is that I am homebound , physically disabled and could personally never provide the shipping/delivery service that  a buyer rightfully should expect to receive!   Hence, I have always been and shall remain a buyer  only.  My objective  is that Ebay provide equitable treatment for both buyer AND seller; If  I have to jump hrough hoops to pay, seller needs to get out of the recliner and ship it NOW !!!   I have always been taught that accountability is a two-way path in any human interaction. I, however, am on the north side of 75 years old and respect for others has seriously declined since my youth.

Does Wally World have auctions and take offers now?

If they did, I doubt they would extend days of credit.

I should add that we could be thankful this isn't Goodwill auctions - I think they give some kind of crazy payment window like 7 or 10 days.

Wally World would have an automatic grabber launch from your device to extract your wallet 1 second after auction close.

All of my customers pay me immediately. No waiting.

@inhawaii

I stopped running auctions years ago.  They just don't work well for what I sell.  I know they do work well for others, but for me it is a no.

All my listings are fixed price.  I too do not take offers.  I also don't require IPR on these listing, only on high end stuff I will sell from time to time.  I don't think I get more than 2 or 3 buyers a year that don't pay.  I don't use IPR on my listings because often times a buyer will buy multiple items and IPR would discourage that or end up costing me too my time and money with refunds and fees.

Re: Requiring 4 days for a buyer to pay is way too long

Fixed price is a great solution but many of the items I sell are unusual and I have no idea how to price them. I find that vintage items have subtle characteristics that can magnify the the value incredibly for enthusiastic collectors. Ebay is a great place to let auction bidders establish the value of a unique item. The other thing I have found is that if a buyer does not pay for 2 days, in all likelihood you are going to get stiffed.

10 years ago I would have agreed with you completely.  But now it seems like everyone has their phone with them so they don't necessarily have to be sitting at their computer to respond. I can't remember the last time I didn't look at my phone for 4 days, or even 2 days.

There are lots of us that don't use our phones for these needs.  I will only use my Desktop or my laptop.

I never use my phone for emails or for any kind of financial transaction, ever.  It gives me piece of mind that the thieves will have to work a bit harder to get my information.

They're very heavily used, though - this site may skew older and older, but so does cell phone use.  Many people are not even computer literate nor do they have ready access to one, but they can work a cell phone.

IAC, any change in payment window or whatever would be a seller opt-in, similar to the UPI window. If eBay wants to push auctions and best offer, they need to have more flexible options but, as said above, baby steps.

Oh I know.  We are a diverse group of people.  I was just chiming in about what I do and don't do.
