Reporting a buyer

What happens when you report a buyer for filing a return with the wrong reason?

I have a buyer who used the reason "arrived damaged" and in the comments wrote that the sweater felt stiff like someone had put it in the dryer.

I offer free 30 day returns, so accepting the return and refunding isn't the issue. The sweater is 90% wool 10% cashmere and it seems to me that the buyer just didn't like the feel of the sweater, which should be a remorse return and I should not be forced to refund original shipping.

I guess my question comes down to, is it worth it to report the buyer after I get the sweater back and how does ebay handle the report? The few bucks I lose on shipping isn't going to break me, I am more concerned about having a defect for being falsely accused of sending a damaged item.

Thanks in advance for any guidance provided.

Reporting a buyer will do nothing. You are required to accept the return and refund them the money. Listen isn't not worth the hassle. Just refund the money and sell the item to someone else. They are just not wanting to pay the shipping cost back. It's not right but you would be fighting a losing battle. Some folks will fight and argue til they are blue in the face. Fact is nothing gets done and you would be wasting time.

"It seems to me..." is your opinion. Seller opinions are as good as buyer opinions in cases like this. You can always give it a go and see what happens. Buyer can come back with their opinion saying the stiffness was due to damage.

You offer free returns – why would you withhold the return shipping, regardless of the reason?

You won't get a Defect for  responding promptly to the Claim with a Return Shipping Label.

You might if you start an arguement.

Send the label get the sweater back refund relist.

Don't annoy an already happy customer. They probably can boil the sweater down to fit Barbie.

You can report the buyer, but nothing will done, unless they have done it multiple times.

If you offer free returns, then you accept remorse returns as well as any other reason. You do not get to pick and choose what returns to honor in full. Free returns means just that—you bear the entire financial burden of the return regardless of the reason given.

Free returns are no guarantee really of anything - if someone feels that a product is defective, they're going to open a return for that.

The return was accepted immediately and a return label sent, this happened last week. I never said anything about withholding return shipping or trying to argue with a customer over their opinion. My question wasn't about the whether or not to accept the return or to refund the buyer, I was curious about the report the buyer process.

Thank you bonanza125 for letting me it isn't worth the effort. I assumed that would be the case.

Resistance is futile.

What will happen? Most likely nothing.

About the only way on ebay to look at it is, if it turns out the buyer was lying and returns a perfectly good item, at least you can put it straight back up for sale.

A lot of people are allergic to wool, which may cause it to feel scratchy or irritating (damaged).

@mikkikq11  Hi again, well, you did share something about withholding payment. I believe what the posters are responding to is this phrase,

“The sweater is 90% wool 10% cashmere and it seems to me that the buyer just didn't like the feel of the sweater, which should be a remorse return and I should not be forced to refund original shipping.

I agree.  It is so frustrating.  I had 2 sales in January where I said I would take a remorse return and they instead claimed the items were defective.  Ebay does not care at all and said I am required to take the return and refund their shipping even if their claim was a lie.  They said they are neutral and don't take sides and I said well you are taking the buyers side because they are out nothing and I am out shipping both ways.  It's beyond frustrating, but even talking to a supervisor doesn't help.  They are completely on the buyers team.  Even though we pay the fees.
