Removing Sticker Residue from plastic bottles

Reccommendations please, I have some prescription bottle that  I am trying remove sticker residue from, I have tried soaking them for a few days to soften the labels in hot dawn dish soap, then I tried bleach/water solution and then rubbing alchol and water and none of them worked to make the label residue soft enought to remove the residue.

Thank you for any other reccommends!

You can cover that with a white label of your own or a sticker.

Re: Removing Sticker Residue from plastic bottles

Goo-Gone is excellent.  With a bit of practice, I have been able to take of a price decal on a carded Hot Wheels car without damaging the card.  The wet spot will completely disappear in a day or so.  Use just a tiny amount.

Goo-gone is also excellent at removing grease stains from your favorite blouse!

You've gotten a lot of great recommendations on adhesive removal already @gatorcountrystore so I'll add something a little different:

If your intent is to sell the empty bottles, check recent sales volume and prices on Terapeak as well as current volume of active listings. You're putting in a lot of work into something that may not yield a high enough profit to justify the time and effort spent.

Re: Removing Sticker Residue from plastic bottles

Peanut butter. Cheap and effective for anything that does not deal with paper or labels you want perserved. As long as you don't have any allergies.

My mom used to be a reseller handling many antiques and vintage items. That was her go to item to remove anything sticky and/or stuck on.

She saved her new glass stove when a piece of cleaning spunge got burnt on one of the burners. It wasn't cool enough to try to clean. She was ticked, and tried everything to remove the burnt on stuff.

She finally decided to put peanutbutter on it, and let it sit for awhile. Patiently she was able to get it all off.

With left over sticker goo, I tend to let the peanutbutter sit for a short time before starting to gently rub the item. Probably arounf 5 minutes. Sometimes I do reapply it, and let it sit longer especially if it is being difficult. It will eventually come off. With the stove, she let the peanutbutter sit for hours.

Finger nail polish remover lighter fluid works great. I like lighter fluid because it evaporates.

Nail polish remover doesn't evaporate? I thought it did.

I use charcoal lighter fluid.  The big square tin you buy for a BBQ is about $3 and will last years.    I saturate a paper towel and let it sit a few minutes.  Sometimes elbow grease is needed but not often.  It's great for polishing book covers too.  It evaporates quickly and leaves no odor or residue.  Just make sure the top clicks and locks into place.

I think I read one time that Bestine is one of the things used to make lighter fluid. So that probably explains why they may be similar in many ways and are basically stored the same way. I always just use a paper towel or tissue soaked with Bestine and just let it sit on a sticker. Within seconds the sticker slides right off.

I just also found this video comparing it to Goo Gone. Basically it says Goo Gone is fine for anything besides paper or cardboard. Bestine is a clear winner for anything you don't want to get oily. I know the OP is asking for plastics but jut in case someone else is reading and wanting a remover for stickers on paper. I actually have and use both solvents.

I've heard that about using it for removing gum out of your hair. Never tried it though.

Interestingly lighter fluid is flammable.

So don't smoke and remove stickum at the same time.

Because sellers often need to remove stickers before selling the stuff the stickers are on?

Good idea not to smoke around stuff you're going to try to sell anyway = )
