Listed a children's classic book which apparently now is considered offensive and discriminative so it was removed by epay. Since I've seen this very book sold on the site numerous times I did the quick results search and yes, these very same letters were sold 6 times in the past 30 days. Even ATM there is an active listing with the same book that's been waiting for the auction end for several days.
When I contacted the fees collectors the rep only could tell me that that was a restricted listing according to their policy. All my attempts to find out how come other sellers were/are allowed to sell it were in vain.
And yes, the seller who is selling it freely has more than 24,000 feedbacks.
Talking about discriminative...

A few things to keep in mind-
- eBay can and does issue violations after items sell- even weeks later. Just because it sold does not mean that seller wasn't sanctioned later.
- Nobody knows what percentage of takedowns are by bots or by live humans- or what kind of timelines they work on. A listing may stay active longer for any number of reasons.
- If a listing doesn't have the right product identifiers then it can take longer for bots to catch it. If it needs to be taken down by a human, who knows how frequently they address specific items/categories?
The bottom line is that it's a banned item and your listing was pulled. Other sellers' listings should be pulled, too. If this was a Dr. Seuss book then I can say that many other sellers' listings were already pulled- several came to this board to question and/or complain about it.
If you want to report the other seller then go ahead. If I was caught off guard by a takedown of this nature- then I would lean towards sending a message to the other seller to give them a heads up so they don't face the same fate. Things like this can be hard to determine if they're OK to list since there isn't any master list of banned titles anywhere. On the other hand- if (hypothetically) the listing was for an item clearly spelled out as banned in eBay policy pages- like something made from an endangered species- then report them. That info is easily available for a seller to check before they list. YMMV.

Which i believe was one of my points—eBay is often inconsistent when enforcing the rules.

So when you get a speeding ticket. Do you go tell the police officer everyone else who was speeding?
I know life isn't always fair.

@underhardcover wrote:how true; but my point is that the ebay is clearly aware of the same listing being active.
How do you know they are aware ? Have you reported them ? Do you plan to report them ?

SC reps always tell you what you want to hear. If you really want to get those others removed you have to go to each and every listing and report it there. Also it can take at least 48 hours before anything gets done so be patient. By then some will have sold, thus the reason why you saw some already sold when you did your private eye work.

True; nevertheless, my point is that eBay is well aware of the same listing's existence and for some reason does nothing to address it; I'm curious as to why. What should I have done to be left alone as well?

Just to finish this up; the above talked auction reported to epay was successfully finished while my listing was removed. I am sure that cheerleaders will come up with explanation in no time.

Just curious, as others may be, what was the title of the book I don't want to accidently post one at some point only to have it removed. I can always use Craigslist or another forum as an outlet for a lot of things that are banned on eBay these days.

The OP's post proves you wrong.

If you have not been keeping up with the latest trend of banning anything and everything some take offense to, then try Googling Dr Seuss.

I'm afraid that logic and rationale isn't going to get you very far. Why? Well, perhaps because ebay isn't run by people - ebay is run by 'bots that decide what is right, what is wrong, what is accepted and what is not, according to how they are programmed and what the company policy is for that week. And, those 'bots are programmed by 3rd party vendors who get the specs for the 'bots from one team or another, who get their instructions from one manager or another who get the feedback on what is desired from someone else, but a little higher up on the food chain.
And, all the while, ebay will advise one to check out the UA, especially the part that says you have signed away any rights because ebay can decide, at their sole discretion, what can or can not be listed, when they want to.

What's with you people, anyway? Why do you bother coming here for help when all you want to do is insult the those who are trying to help you?

I am up to date on the Dr. Seuss book bans I was just wondering if something else had been added to the ever expanding list of things people find offensive these days.

Sorry for the late reply, I live in a different time zone. UK.
I wasn't suggesting anything, I simply answered your question.
Now, if you want to grass up the other sellers, well, that's up to you.
