Refunding a buyer

If I want to send a refund to a buyer, will ebay refund their cut?

I listed an item as used, and I stated in my description that "It appears to be complete, with no parts removed." and "Unknown condition."

I didn't pay attention to ebays automatic description that said "fully functional"

The buyer left negative feedback.

The purchase price was $51.00  I only got $30.00.

If I want to refund the buyer, will ebay refund will their cut?

The buyer has not requested a refund.

I would like to get rid of the negative feedback.

Re: Refunding a buyer

Don't refund without a return.

Even if  you refund, the buyer has no incentive to remove the negative feedback.

EBay does not use feedback to assess your selling account. Some buyers do.

Respond to the feedback with "I regret that you are unhappy with your purchase. Please return it for a refund." and send the same Message to the buyer.

This offsets their neg, by showing you are cooperative.

If they open a Claim, send return shipping and refund on arrival.

Ask them to remove the neg after the return and refund.

But.

No refunds without return.

Yes if you refund the buyer the full amount eBay will use the fees they charged to fund part of the refund. The only time eBay does not refund fees is if eBay has to make the decision to refund because you won't (not applicable for your situation).

Re: Refunding a buyer

As a separate issue, this account is now poisoned and almost impossible to sell from due to the low FB score.

Again, that won't bother eBay, which uses your successful transactions not FB to assess you.

But you should either do a lot of buying, think holiday presents, from sellers who leave FB on shipment to offset the poison neg, or open a second account for selling (ugh) and start all over again.

Or both.

There is nothing that says you can't have multiple accounts. And you may turn this one into a buying only account in the future, while continuing with the new one for selling.

Best wishes.

No refund without return.

Re: Refunding a buyer

I agree the account is "now poisoned".

What I have notice...a lot of buyers are buying $2.00 stamps from me as well as other sellers to get their feedback going before they decide to sell items. I get feedback from these buyers even before I mail the item out. It could be cheap post cards or coins or toys but a seller what to create a base of feedback plus...and this is important.....looking at how items are shipped from other sellers so they can get an idea how to ship.

Re: Refunding a buyer

I sent a message to the buyer, asking what it would take to make him happy.

The item hopefully has some value to him, and he may be happy with a partial refund.

The thing I'm worried about is the cost of shipping. It was high, over $50

Also there was $9 sales tax.

Re: Refunding a buyer

When you say full amount, does that include shipping and sales tax?

Re: Refunding a buyer

When the item is returned, and not before, you process the refund.

This is a one click operation.

The money you recieved is returned, including the fees you paid.

He gets all his money back.

You are out the shipping you paid.

But there is no reason to believe that anything you do, no matter how you abase yourself , grovel, or beg will make him change his feedback.

So .

Why spend money and still have the neg?

Re: Refunding a buyer

OP surely does not want this "not as described" item to be shipped back.

paying shipping cost 2X for this item would make no sense (and no cents)

Re: Refunding a buyer

Probably not.

But it puts the onus on the buyer to make arrangements.

Remember eBay will not accept the Claim given the third party pickup and opportunity to confirm the description.

So the buyer would be paying for the return shipping, just as they did the original shipping of a purchase that was Local Pickup.

The seller may have underdescribed the item, but the buyer had the opportunity to confirm the description. That and the third party pickup are the reasons the seller can, should they wish to, tell the buyer to pound sand.

There is no reason to think anything will make the buyer happy.

There is no reason for the seller to give in to what is possibly a fake complaint and certainly one that eBay will not support . (We haven't talked about credit cards, and shouldn't at this point.)

And the returned item may be working fine.

Or not.
