Recieved a warning for a message I recieved

Yesterday I called in to report a buyer who was trying to get me to sell them an item outside of ebay and kept sending me messages.

This morning I woke up to an email warning ME not to contact people to try to sell them things outside of ebay?? I didn't message this person. They messaged me.

It said if I did not follow their guidelines they may apply restrictions to my account.

"During the next 3 days, please make sure your selling activities follow these guidelines. If you don't, your account(s) may be subject to a range of actions, including:

- Final value fees may be assessed when you have offers to sell outside of eBay, even if the item didn't actually sell.
- You won’t be able to list or buy for up to 7 days.
- Some or all of your fixed price listings may be hidden from search results for 7 days, and fees won't be refunded.
- You won’t be able to send or receive messages with eBay members unless you have a recent transaction."

So if more scammers start messaging me, they will place restrictions on my account?

Is this some sort of confused bot?

It is a confused Bot.I received this message too from someone who included their phone number in the email.  It seems if someone puts certain info in the body of their e-mail, it automaticaly sets off what happened to you.  Ebay is well aware of this and as usual, they have "been trying" to fix this issue.  I wouldn't hold my breath.

Same here. I took 15 minutes to call and report someone who sent me a message asking me to contact him via text.   My thanks is this veiled threat.  If anyone from eBay is reading this, I have a suggestion: TEST THE **bleep** CODE! Flaming your honest users who are going out of their way to help you is a recipe for extinction.

odd, if these messages happened through your ebay inbox, ebay monitors them and can see the buyer contacted you and what was said in reply to them.

Re: Recieved a warning for a message I recieved

No, not a confused bot. It is working as intended.

If someone sends contact info that the bots pick up, BOTH parties get the email you did.  Both parties get it noted on their accounts.  BOTH parties get the email for education purposes.  Either party may not be aware that that is against eBay policies, and in the case of the seller, they want you to be aware that this is wrong and to not be tempted to take your sale off eBay.

You can call CS and have them read the messages and make a note on your account that you did NOT ask them to send this message and have no intention of taking sales off eBay.  This may help you in the future.

When you get a message asking you to sell off eBay, respond with I ONLY sell and communicate ON ebay.  That covers you as eBay can read your response and it is clear you are not going to sell off eBay.  This has been recommended by the Blues, the Community Team.

Be very careful what you do as far as this listing.  If you end it, you could wind up being charged FVF just because it looks like you did sell it off ebay.

Good Luck.

OR you can write back, tell them you only do business on eBay, then block them.

@stevha-962

when i get messages similar from buyers, i block them first, then call ebay and report them, and have the c/s rep note my account that i did not ask or encourage this.  i also note in my listings that ALL correspondence with buyers will be via ebay messaging.

i still get these warning emails from ebay, lol, i always wonder when i get one if it will be the last one and if ebay will sanction my account for 'acting outside of policy... kinda scarey

Clueless bots.

I got a warning once when someone asked if I had a particular edition of a book, and they gave me the ISBN number. Guess those silly bots thought it was a phone number. unamused
