I was contacted by a buyer on ebay that they don't trust ebay and wanted me to accept a echeck and wait for me to ship the item until it is cleared. I got the payment and it was cleared. The buyer then asked me to send some portion of the amount to a mover on zelle. I did that too. When zelle was cleared, the buyer asked me to refund the money as things have changed and they dont want to buy. They started threatening me to refund or I will see what happens next etc. I returned the remainder amount by Zelle again to a different account they asked.
This is scam. I wanted to share this here for people to know not to encourage anyone outside of Ebay. They will make a fraudulent transaction through you. I learnt the hard way and want to share with the community so it can help others who may face a similar situation.

Good Afternoon,
I just had a customer wanting to buy an item I have but wants to pay by E-Check. Said that due to bookkeeping and reconciliation that he can only pay by E-Check. Once item has cleared he would have the movers pickup said item. I am smelling a scam but am not sure if my instincts are right. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

An Echeck through email? How did that process work? Did they send the echeck attached to the email???

Total nonsense. He's trying to baffle you with, um, bologna, and financial gobbledygook. That is not how real payments work on eBay. Just stop responding and add him to your Blocked Buyer List (here). There is no real sale occurring here.

Anyone notice the date of the original post in this thread?

Its always best to start your own thread as it is less confusing when others are replying to just your question. But to answer your question, there is no way for a seller to directly accept an echeck on eBay so if that’s what the buyer wants to do, it is likely a scam.

Good morning. I think you have just helped me avoid such a scam. I exchanged a few messages with the "buyer" but something didn't feel right so landed here after doing a quick google. Sure enough, what you described above lines up with exactly what this buyer was asking. Thanks again for posting this.

Although the person who started this thread is no longer available to reply, I think it's great you came here to investigate others experiences with scammers. Watch out for the ones who want to text you, send to a different address, add a gift card, etc. It's all an attempt to steal your money and the item. Good Eye and Good for you!
Have a great day.
