Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

Hi happy holidays everyone, I received a neutral rating on something I sold last month. It was a “comfrt” sweat pants and hoodie, the hoodie was brand new but the sweatpants was worn a few times, there was some worn in the crouch/ leg area and there’s was some discoloration or a stain on the pocket area. I took a lot of pictures but the stain/discoloration wasn’t able to shown in the picture but it’s very unnoticeable until a person wears the sweatpants in the direct bright light.

So I am thinking of reaching out to the buyer, especially after I received my first negative rating about two weeks ago after I had sold a bag and relisted the item, but refunded that buyer right away.

But anyway this is what I thinking of writing to the buyer of the sweatpants/hoodie combo, but I wonder if it is worth it.

Below is what I am thinking of writing:

“Hi do you want a refund or to ship back the sweatsuit & hoodie? I did list in the listing that the hoodie was brand new but the sweatpants was worn a few times, so there was some wear and there was a discoloration or stain on the left pocket area of the sweatpants. To resolve the situation, I can offer two things: ship it back, but a partial refund or keep it but a full refund ?”

To add I don’t usually accept returns, I had bad experiences in the past, as well in the listing I have a no return policy.

Here’s the listing:( I was trying to add the listing html but EBay is saying it’s invalid)

I am being to lenient or too accommodating, please any suggestions. Thanks

100% agree with you.  The OP danced around the main issue and now trying to make it right with a refund offer.   Me thinks they already spent too much time communicating with eBay I guess..  Plus a neutral FB does not effect a  FB rating %  at all  see  how it  was calculated below.  They need to worry about there monthly sales performance review on the 20th of each month

  • "We calculated this positive feedback percentage using the total number of positive and negative ratings for orders made in the past 12 months.
  • This excludes repeat feedback from the same buyer for orders made within the same eBay calendar week.
  • Here are this seller's feedback ratings in the past 12 months (this may differ from the numbers shown in the feedback ratings table):
  • Positive feedback: 2
  • Negative feedback: 1
  • Using these numbers, here's how we calculated this seller's positive feedback percentage:
  • 2 / ( 2 + 1 ) = 66.7%"

I have trouble understanding how heavy-weight material is 'good for people with anxiety.😕

If those $41 pants are pilling after only 3 wearings I would be returning them to the original seller - or donating them - but I would not suggest selling them here. They sound rather overpriced for the poor quality regardless of the designer hoo-hah attached (plastic logo lettering on the top?).

In my selling account I occasionally have a 2-item listing where one component is new and the other is used. In a case like that I list them as Used and then prominently mention in the text that one is new. That way it comes across as a Used listing with a bonus New component - not a New listing where one half is actually Used. In other words the listing has a good surprise instead of a bad one - especially important if the buyer never read the whole description anyway.

P.S. Please stop using AI for descriptions. It does not end well.

Thanks so much, was trying out the AI feature as a word filler, I guess it’s a hindrance. So I’ll keep it simple as I was always used to do.

Thanks

Simple and authentic - you can't go wrong with that.

Enough with the pile on - people are just saying the same thing over and over, just trying to get their little jab in. OP knows the difficulty.

I'd ditch those stock photos on any sort of used item.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

Thanks, so the buyer reached out to me, I was offering a full refund but they said a partial refund. So I initiated a refund not including the shipping. With the blue coat, I shipped it out this morning after the winning buyer paid for it last night. Now waiting for someone to buy the polka dot bag.

Another question separate for me as buyer, I am interested in buying a computer screen/tv monitor, I have seen two of these. I think one of the monitors are out of stock but not sold. The other one is still a live auction/Buy it Now. I am hesitant because the Sellers’s ratings.

The item is SAMSUNG 27" M80C UHD HDR Smart Monitor PC, and the two separate listings are in my price range, under $400.  I wish I can input the hyperlinks of the listings in here.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

I have never seen pants get a warn look from only wearing them 3x. A stain?  Yes, but wear? No. You lied in your listing as they are not new with defects. They were worn enough to wear them down, stained and then sold. They were used and ebay will side with them. Your customer deserves a refund and you should have done that before responding to the neutral.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

Believe what you want to believe. I wore them 3x, I have the receipt to prove that I bought them the end of October, received the sweater top and pants, only wore the pants for a two day period, then wore it again a few days before selling the set in November.  As I stated to other Ebayers, that I am thinking it’s the type of material, it is slightly weighted and is a mix of polyester cotton and something else. The pictures I posted in this thread are my current sweats that I have worn well now about 12x. With pants I sold I noticed there was a spot something along where the brand name is etched but it wasn’t noticeable to the naked eye,  it was about a little bit smaller than dime sized spot, it wasn’t like an extremely big spot. So I don’t know how it got there, washed the pants but the discoloration or stain was only noticeable in bright direct light but having to look for it. But it is my fault, should’ve sold it as used. That’s why I listed in the description that sweater was new but had wore the pants. I didn’t understand that I should have just sold the set as used instead of new with defects. But anyway what’s done is done, and I sent the buyer what they requested which was a partial refund I did offered a full refund but they refused.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

Heavy pilling is caused by abrasion on fabric that is knit with short-fibre cotton, particularly in blends. The cheaper the fabric, the shorter the fibres used in the fabric and the faster they unwind, causing pills, which are the frayed ends of the broken fibers. Unfortunately, whoever manufactured that set did not use optimal fabric, and it'll just get worse.

What's so frustrating about this is often a perfectly good brand will do this. If you have anything like this in future, I would suggest simply not selling it.

I suspect your buyer just looked at the stock photo and didn't read much of anything - this is encouraged by the annoying "quick look" pop up where people don't even read the description. Ebay copied this from catalogers, but it's lousy for pre-owned items because condition disclosures just don't get read.

This response is about the eBay boards in general, not this thread or this OP:

In general, I do not consider repeat messages with the same theme as "piling on", I see them as reinforcing the majority opinion. Sure, there is a "helpful" button that readers can use to "vote", but it is subtle and binary.

IMHO many of the follow-up posts do not just say the "same thing, over and over" - many of them address additional aspects or nuances that may not have been brought up before, or give a different perspective on them.

I would NOT buy that listing from a brand new 0-feedback seller. (And although the price is <$400, did you happen to see the shipping charge?)

In general, after the OP has realized where they went wrong, it's petty to keep saying the same thing, particularly with the kind of relish I see too often.

Most of the replies I speak of, in general, have no "nuance" nor anything resembling it.

ETA: This doesn't include simple discussion.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

I can't read through all the posts, but my outlook on the feedback reply is that it is something that I would never ever post as a feedback reply. I might message a buyer with such but would never display it in feedback.

Your reply is an open invitation for anyone that looks at an item to just buy it, and then complain, or leave poor feedback knowing that there is a good possibility of a "free" item. You have put a target on your account that some will take aim at.

Re: Received an neutral rating, it is worth resolving.

Oh ok,  I’ll keep that in mind and won’t do that again. I did reach out to the buyer maybe a week after delivery and didn’t get a reply.  But I take responsibility for the misleading in the listing, even though I did describe the condition of the pants and the sweater being brand new. I guess the buyer didn’t read it. But this selling thing is a learning process.

Thanks
