And this is whyI can't take this site seriously. 25+ years with eBay. 100% positive feedback. 0 defects. 0 late shipping. 0100% uploaded on time and validated. 0 cases. And eBay tells me my "seller performance status is at risk" and in 2 days it'll be downgraded from Top Rated to Above Standard.

I would assume eBay would rather have the fees from the $50K in sales but I may be wrong. Makes no sense to me.
It makes perfect sense to me because it's a measure of customer satisfaction. If you make one sale for $5,000, you have one happy customer. But someone who makes 5,000 sales for $1 each has 5,000 happy customers, so statistically their satisfaction rating is much higher even though the average dollar value of their sales is lower.
Actually they are identical as long as there are no issues with any of the following criterial which your seller level is largely based upon.
It seems to me that what eBay wants to reward with the TRS designation is sellers who are consistently and repeatedly providing good buyer experiences.
Agreed so why toss in the number of sales into the mix? Which is better a seller with perfect seller level ratings but only 1 sale for $50K during 12 months (Above Standard) or a seller with 500 sales in 12 months, Top Rated but less than optimal seller level ratings?

This is no different. It is simply a program that has certain requirements you must achieve to become part of the TRS program. If everyone could achieve it the program would have no meaning. Kind of like getting a participation trophy.”
yes, I understand all of this quite well. I have several degrees…. and…. as I said, it doesn’t bother me… I can think it’s crazy if I want to… dang it.
My post wasn't in response to something you said, it was a different poster.
FYI if you don't distinguish between what you are quoting from another poster and what your response is, many will not be able to tell what is your post and what is someone else. For ease I changed the color of the font on my post you were quoting.

Sorry about that… I did put quotes on your post, but for some reason, they weren’t there once I hit the reply button..

Be grateful they informed you! we lost "Premium Rated Status" in April without any warning email or message to advise we were at risk and now the option to appeal genuine cases is no longer possible!
In the lead up to next review 20th June we have 2 out 3 delivery defects that ebay advised on 2 occasions were not our fault and defects will be removed and were not.
We have sold on ebay for years and years with a fantastic record but it has become more like amazon in the fact that you risk losing status without anyone to talk to.
With the decline in sales and now the added loss of ratings it does make you wonder how long to hold in there.

What is "Premium Rated Status", I have never heard of it? Do you mean Top Rated Seller [TRS]?
If you are talking about TRS, you should have been able to see the danger of losing it on your Dashboard. From what you are saying it appears you keep an eye on your Dashboard. At the top it tells you what your what your past Seller Level was, Your current Seller Level and what you are on track for on the next eval.
Whoops, I see you are located in the UK, things are likely different than they are in the USA. You might consider posting on the UK board as your fellow sellers in the UK likely could offer more accurate info for your part of the world.

Before the TRS system sellers had to sell $1000 a month to be a bronze power seller and get a discount. For silver, it was $3,000/month.

eBay has a number of criteria for a seller to be labeled "Top Rated" and it makes sense to count factors relating to the quality of service in rating a seller. However, it is absurd to penalize sellers for factors beyond their control, such as volume of sales. Obviously all sellers want maximum sales but this factor is totally controlled by buyers, not sellers. (Perhaps eBay should downgrade buyers instead). Any fault for poor sales rests not with the seller but with the platform, which has seen continual declining traffic for the past several years combined with eBay's failure to advertise its platform. I constantly see TV ads for Esty but I haven't seen an eBay TV commercial in 20 years. I would rate eBay "Below Standard".
Note to the eBay shills before they reply: No, I'm not "mad at eBay" -- merely disappointed at what it's become and sad to see it is following other poorly managed commerce giants like Sears on the path to extinction. Yes, I was joking about downgrading buyers. And No, we don't want to see the usual eBay shills rush to its defense and attack the OP. And to the person who commented how the rating system is useless and has no effect on sales, you are absolutely correct -- my sales actually went down as a "Top Rated" seller. I ignore the rating system-- my post was merely an eye-roll, not because I care about the rating but in response to receiving a threatening message from eBay warning me about my seller performance (which has been perfect by all of its metrics and the real issue was sales volume, a factor beyond my control).

If TRS becomes the equivalent of a Participation Trophy, then it no longer has any real meaningful purpose.

Calling anyone here an "eBay shill" is inflammatory, untrue, and unnecessary. If you don't want people to disagree, don't post.

Sadly this kind of post is usually the result of someone simply disagreeing with a poster. Not sure what anyone expects to learn if everyone just agrees with each other. Trying to share with someone things from their view point is not "attacking" someone, well unless the poster word choices are really poor.
To merely have a different opinion of something or to share some actual facts that someone else may not have is neither attacking anyone nor is it defending the site. It is simply sharing ideas and information which is the basic function of a Community like this.
