Hello,
I'm not new to eBay as a buyer, but I am as a seller.
I've received mixed messaging regarding AI. NONE Of my items are AI generated, as I'm just getting started. But as a digital designer, I'm wondering if once a photo of an item has been taken, if I can use an AI generated background to enhance a photo via Canva, Photoroom, PS, etc.?
I hope this makes sense. My apologies in advance if this has been discussed. Thanks so much.

If you are going to sell digital items, make sure your listings are WELL MARKED that it is digital. Also make sure you have been approved by Ebay to sell digital items.

Are you attempting to find out whether you will be violating anyone's copyrights by using an AI background and selling your images with them?
No one can answer that, because there are already pending legal actions against AI providers from copyright holders whose work the AI result is derived from.
Are you wondering if you can use AI to enhance the background of the images of manufactured products you are planning to list for sale?
You not only might run the same risk but also risk poor click rates to visit your listing because distracting background in thumbnail pictures can lead buyers to ignore your listings. The plain white background is usually the best bet for most items. You certainly could use AI to remove distracting background.

@the.silver.finch So far, I have no seen any policy statement from ebay about using offsite AI, much less actually prohibiting it. And in the UK, ebay is actually partnering with ChatGPT to teach sellers how to use it to help with ebay. Also, ebay's own photo editing allows you to create AI backgrounds within ebay. Here's an example of one I created when they first offered this:

Unless is has changed, ebay's background tool is far less robust than , say, Canva, but I do know some sellers who have been using it pretty regularly.
