I'm currently running a promotion where the buyer gets 10% off if they purchase 2 or more items (select items in a specific category). I'd like to offer 15% off for 3 or more and 20% off for 4 or more. Can I accomplish this by creating separate promotions with the same items included? (i.e. can I stack promotions?). And if so, will the discount be correct or would it possibly aggregate and provide an unintended larger discount (like 25% off 3)?

Volume pricing doesn't stack.

However, I run a '5% discount on 8 items or more', and also a max shipping special, and I have found running the above volume pricing in addition... never worked quite right. It's not that they stacked incorrectly, it's that if they bought using volume pricing the other discounts would somehow not work at all.

I believe there's a difference between "volume pricing" and "order discounts". I think volume pricing only applies to purchasing multiples of the same item, whereas order discounts apply to multiple unique items added to an order.

I've done some experimenting by establishing three separate order discount promotions:

1. Get 10% off when you buy 2+ items

2. Get 15% off when you buy 3+ items

3. Get 20% off when you buy 4+ items

I have the same items in each promotion. I was able to log out of my account and test this by adding my items to my cart. It seems to work as expected. The correct discount was applied to my order as I added each item.

The only drawback I can see is that the buyer only sees the "Get 20% off when you buy 4+" offer at the top of the listing. They won't find out about the 2+ or 3+ offers until they add the items to their cart. To remedy this, I've added a fully descriptive banner to my storefront.
