Question about returns

I sold an item, after it was delivered the buyer they contacted me through the return system that she wanted to return the item because it doesn't seem authentic and she didn't like the scent (it was perfume). So I clicked "accept return" and I believe it asked me to agree to pay for a lable, something about a lable and whatever it was I agreed.

Have not received the item back yet. Nor have I gotten any info as if a lable was printed or any tracking info on it. I just checked my end of things and it said the buyer has until 1/23 to return, and "If the buyer doesn't send the item back by Jan 23 we may close this return." The return still shows as open on my account. Also I just checked the paypal transaction and it says the sender of this payment is unregistered.  What does that mean in regards to the return? How long does ebay take to close this?

I'm only asking because I've had a few buyers who contact me (not through the return system) saying they want to return the item and I say ok, send it back for a refund and then they dissapear, no more contact  and no item arrives. And no, I do not issue the refund untill the item is back in my hands.

Re: Question about returns

Call CS and have them close the case, show them it was supposed to be RETURNED in your hands by the 23rd. and the item has not been shipped yet, AND also show them proof that PAYPAL says the buyer is UNREGISTERED.  they are not sending anything back, just hoping you would refund them and they could keep the perfume. if you get a chargeback in the future for UNAUTHORIZED purchase through paypal, call them and show them proof of shipment and delivery and have them close that case if thats what happens. good luck

Re: Question about returns

Thank you for the reply. Yes something seemed odd with this situation. I'll call cs tomorrow, I have had good luck calling during the day.

Re: Question about returns

I called CS the next day and the  case was closed. That was on 1/26. Today I got 2 messages from this buyer asking if they can still return the item, they said they had a family emergency. What do I do? This hasn't happened before. If I say no to the return can they leave a neg? If I tell them yes, return it, now that the case is closed there is no time limit for them to return it by, and no way for them to print a lable.

I checked on paypal and they're still unregistered. What does that even mean?

Re: Question about returns

They can't leave a neg - or even any feedback at all - if the case was closed in your favor, so don't worry about that.  You're under no obligation to accept the return now that the time has passed.

Personally?  I would tell them too bad, they had their chance to return it and then block them.

Re: Question about returns

I am able to leave feedback for this transaction, wouldn't they be also? I blocked them after the case was closed.

Re: Question about returns

Once a case has been closed in the seller's favor, buyers CANNOT leave feedback. At least that's the way it should be.

Re: Question about returns

My resolution center says "Closed by Customer Support." Would that mean it was in my favor?

Re: Question about returns

The buyer may try to return through Paypal, but they have to pay shipping, up to 180 days.  You may be able to present the evidence of the closed eBay case, but may not be worth the effort.  They can also file a CC chargeback if the paypal return was denied.
