Question about Authenticity Guarantee

I was reviewing my listings last week and noticed two of my baseball cards were marked with the "Authenticity Guarantee". These cards are PSA authenticated already (and my listing provides the URL to authenticate it on PSAs website).

I contacted eBay support and they eventually told me that anything over $350 automatically gets set with the "Authenticity Guarantee" marking. So, as a test, I dropped it to $335 and nothing changed. They told me it would have to be reviewed again and should have that marking removed. I checked it 3 days later and it still has that flag:

Item ID: 134049547967

I just did some more digging and what they told me was inaccurate. According to info on eBay's website:

"Today we’re announcing Authenticity Guarantee for Trading Cards, eBay’s authentication service, for individual, UNGRADED sports trading cards (STC), collectible card games (CCG), and non-sports trading cards (NSTC) sold for $750 or more."

So, not only should my cards not have been marked with that guarantee (since they're already graded by PSA), but they also shouldn't have be marked because the price is well below the $750 threshold.

Can anyone tell me how to (1) avoid this in the future and (2) get eBay to remove that marking?

The other card item# is 134049593944

Thanks,

Andy

Re: Question about Authenticity Guarantee

eBay Authenticity Guarantee for Trading Cards || eBay.com

It's been changed to $250;

Also; YOUR grading or you SAY it's been graded can NOT be verified until it goes to the authenticator to VERIFY the Grading by PSA (not that it is; but could be faked, photoshopped etc.)

The 'protection' is for the buyer, not for you- so they are sure spending that kind of money on a 10c card, is 'real' and 'graded' correctly.

Re: Question about Authenticity Guarantee

Thanks for that info.  I just spoke with eBay (a guy named Eric. The BEST person I've ever spoken with at eBay. Wish I could contact him each time I had issues!).

He explained that the verbiage I found on their website is old. As you stated, any cards being sold for $250+ must go through their designated authenticator. For cards, everything (whether PSA graded, Beckett graded, etc.) is authenticated by PSA.

He went on to tell me that there is widespread fraud with trading cards. That's why eBay is doing this. If you're selling sports cards, the shipping label will have an address for PSA in California. Once they've confirmed authentication, they ship it on to the buyer.

Eric also went on to tell me I should mark my listing as Final Sale since the card is being reauthenticated and there's no doubt it is what it is. He said once PSA has verified authenticity, the seller gets paid out and any disputes after that point are between eBay and the buyer.

So, shipping time is a little longer with this process, BUT, the buyer knows what they received is the real deal.

Re: Question about Authenticity Guarantee

I am experiencing the same thing and I am tired of it. I have used ebay since 1997.  Boy how things have changed. My Jose Ramirez #45  /25  black is off center and I am told it has a surface flaw. I am not a grader. I am listing it well below the value. If ebay wants to make us use the authenticity guarantee why not send me the grade so I do not have to wait for shipping and then get it returned. I can at least post the grade for interested buyers. I cannot afford to send all of my cards to PSA for grading. I also see many cards graded by PSA on eBay that have obvious problems. Most buyers are big boys and girls and knows what they looking at. I am going to try and sell it again and will not let it be shipped if it is going to eBay guarantee crap first. I listed it stating that it has flaws and that should be enough. Maybe I will list it as buyer pickup only.
