Thank You

Question On Views

views are how many times a person actually clicks on/looks at the listing page.   At one point only the first view by a person was counted even if he went back 30 times.......  I assume that's still true

impressions are how many times ebay shows the item title in searches.........

well, maybe I should hedge a bit on impressions.......perhaps also counts when item title is shown in all the "other listing" stuff in a listing........the "also looked ats" etc.

Question On Views

@dhbookds

Thank you for your response.

What I am having a hard time with is the numbers that are shown on the Manage Active Listings Page indicate that all of my listings, except what I listed in the last couple of days, have more than one view (most are over 10 views).  So, since I have over 500 active listings, even if the same person viewed the listing more than once, the number reported on the traffic report in seller hub for an 18 day period should be more than 459.  Unless, the two numbers are representing different data.

Question On Views

problem I  see with trying to relate the figures is the time periods and the ended listings........  active is going to show based on when the listing started, but would not include solds or ended.......

You can set the traffic data page for a specific time period (if all the listings started at one item), but it will still show views from the solds within that period............

Question On Views

Thank you for trying to help.

Maybe I am going to just have to give up on trying to collect anything useful from this data.  Here is an example of the discrepancy I am finding.  This item was listed on Feb 1st and sold on Feb 21st.  I set the dates on the traffic report page to reflect Feb 1st - Feb 21st.  This data shows 7 Page views for this item.  However on the actual page from the sold item it shows 23 views.  I guess it is possible that only 7 different people viewed the item during the 20 days before it sold.  However, I am also seeing listings that show ended with zero views and I can never remember ever having a listing that was about to end with 0 views showing on the active selling page.

Maybe there will be a class or workshop at eBay Open....I am so confused dizzy_face

Question On Views

View stats have proved to be unreliable and inaccurate in the past. Take the number with a grain of salt.

Impressions are more important numbers to look at. Are those accurate? I don't know.

Question On Views

23 looked at your item (views) 7 people clicked on item to view it (impressions) and 1 sold.
Is that what you’re asking about?

Not exactly.  I see 23 views from the listing page of the item.  From the traffic report the same item shows 7 views.  So either one or both of those numbers is inaccurate or the term "View" has a different meaning depending on where you are seeing the number... listing page or traffic report.

Question On Views

mcdougle4248,

Let me ask you something. If ebay provided no such data---no impressions, no views numbers---would it really be something you'd worry about?

I'm not trying to be snarky, but my opinion is: If you sell one offs, rather than multi quantity listings, most of this is not very important at all. As someone said on another thread, the only click that really matters is the Buy It Now.

Also, are your listings GTC or a fixed duration (such as 10 days, 30 days etc)?

I can echo your experience        72 on listing page, 52 on traffic..........  the one thing I can think of is that the listing can still get views after it's sold..... but perhaps the traffic # stops at the sale........

I kind of gave up on views several years ago.......they just varied so much, they were very doubtful.......  but it is possible to sell something with 0 views......thru the product page.....they don't have to click on the listing to buy it.

Question On Views

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

If the information was not there then I would just have to guess, which in reality is what I am doing right now.  So, to answer your question, worried no, questioning my guessing ability yes.  I just started changing my 30 day FP listings over to GTC on March 1st, so about 1/3 of my listings are GTC and the rest are FP 30 day listings.  All will be GTC on Mar 30th.

Question On Views

the reason I asked about whether you use GTC:

I've been using GTC since Sept of last year. I just looked at one active item, originally listed as GTC on Sept 13th: Views on Active page: 344.

Views on the Seller Hub Traffic page: 25.

The difference is not in how each defines a "view"...they define "view" the same way.
The difference is that they are measuring different time spans. My default for Traffic is 2/7/2019 to 2/24/2019. During that time period, a couple weeks, 25 views. Traffic shows you at most 90 days worth of numbers, if you reset it.

What I'm seeing in Active is the number of views since the listing went live, back in Sept of last year: 344. But that's about, what, 5 1/2 months worth of views.

I think THAT is the main difference.

Question On Views

As to your example, of the Feb item, I think dhbookds probably nailed it: seven views before it sold, additional views showing on the actual listing page because people have continued to click through to the item even after it sold. Those post sale views aren't part of the traffic report
