I purchased a shipping label through eBay, but someone else is using my tracking number, and it’s already showing as in transit now. I’m not sure how this happened when i havent even dropped off the package yet, could someone please help me figure out what to do? Is there any way to resolve this and get a refund?

I learned today the POST OFFICE recyles/reuses tracking numbers!! (so some glitch was causing currently used ones to be used before they were ready.)

Is this still happening for labels purchased today Monday 6/23/25? Or has it been solved? Anyone?

Ebay shut down their Call Center early in the Pandemic. They did not set it back up. You do have several other ways to contact Ebay.
***********************************************
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

eBay’s infinite wisdom at work. lol
You didn't share what you learned from Ebay customer service.

I was on the phone for 30 minutes shuffled between 2 reps as of now it is still unresolved.
They didn’t or wouldn’t cancel the label and give me a refund. Told me to wait 24- 48 hours if the tracking is still the same to call them at the number they called from. Good thing I have a long duration handing time otherwise I would get a defect for not shipping on time.
Until they resolve the issue, I decided to use pirate ship to print my labels and will write off the one that is unusable from eBay.

Well you asked them to do something they can't do, which is cancel a shipping label. You can easily do that if you have not yet shipped the package. If you need instructions on how to accomplish that, I'd be happy to help.
I've been using the Ebay shipping labels and fortunately for me, I'm not having this issue, so it is something every seller is experiencing. Still it is a significant issue and Ebay is aware of the problem. It is the first item on the Technical Issue list.
Would you mind trying something for me. I know you have looked at the tracking number on the USPS website and that is what is showing this tracking number has been used before. USPS does that on a regular basis, but I'm pretty sure normally there is much more time between reusing the numbers.
Would you please check the tracking in Ebay. Tell me if it says the same thing as the USPS tracking does? I think you will see a difference, but if you'd verify that I would appreciate it.

Did you not read my previous post?
I can’t cancel the label because eBay says it is used
eBay must have recently updated that thread in technical issues.

I apologize, I did overlook that. So just for clarity, you are seeing this tracking showing delivered at USPS and in the Ebay tracking system?

I've gotten some information back from my research.
Ebay is working with USPS to make sure that any package that was actually shipped with this issue actually arrives at its destination without delay.
They also assure that sellers will not get a defect or otherwise a ding on anything related to the shipping of these items.
They suggest you create a new label and ship the item out. I know you can't void your problematic label so you can get your money back. The shipping team says you will be refunded. But I've asked what is the best method to get that done as clearly from your experience the CSRs are saying they can't void the original shipping label.
I'll keep the thread updated as I get more information to share.

The root of the problem is that USPS has been completely over taken by idiots and ebay has completely got out of the customer service business.

Customer service did NOT suggest I get a new label, they suggested I use the one that shows delivered.
I took it upon myself not to take that suggestion, I chose to go elsewhere for a label.
They also never said I would be refunded.
I was told IT was dealing with it that all CS said.
@bashort It is an eBay glitch USPS is not to blame here.

If it's an ebay/usps issue it should only affect ebay labels, yes?
If it's an actual USPS issue it would be affecting labels bought elsewhere as well, yes?
Wondering if it's safe to use other places to buy a label or maybe just delay shipping and let the buyers know why.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

Even though my defected labels were showing up "delivered" on USPS.com, they only showed "label created" on eBay's platform. So I just went ahead and shipped the items. Once the post office scanned the label, the tracking updated accurately & correctly on eBay. It shouldn't be a problem
