I'm selling a few of my spare graphics cards, and I got a worrying message from somebody interested in buying it.
The prospective buyer wrote "Would this Kalmmx fit a 1050 ti?"
At first I was confused by this question because a video card isn't meant to fit onto another video cards. However I believe what he's probably asking, is will this cooler for one type of graphics card fit his 1050ti, which is a completely different model of card and in all likelihood made by a different manufacturer too. I responded to him saying no, it probably won't fit your card as the layout of various graphics cards can be very different from one card to the next. But now he's started messaging me offers almost every day on it. It seems like my response didn't deter him from being interested in picking up the card anyway. My concern is, that he might go against my advice anyway, purchase the card, take it apart and find that the cooler doesn't fit his 1050ti and then want to return it since it's such an expensive item. While I do accept remorse returns, I really don't want to deal with the hassle of having to re-test this card if he does end up taking it apart, putting it back together and then returning it. And who knows if he'd even do a good job at reassembling it. He might get fingerprints all over it or accidentally bend the heatsink doing that. It's just really not something that I'd want to have to deal with. What would you all recommend that I do about this? Do you think I should go ahead and add him to my BBL list to avoid the potential of him reassembling it and then wanting to return it?

I would, but that's just me...

My Spidey sense tells me to BBL NOW so he can't buy it. Sounds like trouble waiting to happen. Especially if this item is expensive.
You already know he doesn't have what this card fits....yet he keeps sending offers.
Good luck with what you decide.

Trust your gut...bbl. Just too many scammers out there these days.

I think your initial reply to him was just vague enough ("it probably won't fit your card") to give him the idea that it was worth a try anyway. I would follow at this point with something a little more blunt ("I'm sorry but this would not be an option for your card. You should check out coolers for the card you have; mine does not match."), and then quietly drop him into your Blocked Buyer List (here).

Thanks a lot for the advice. As this is the most expensive item on my store, I went ahead and added him to my block list as i'm fearing he would have eventually bought it and then try to take it apart in order to install the cooler on his faster card. I feel a bit guilty about doing that, but would rather not take the risk on him. He's already been starting to annoy me anyway with his many low ball offers when I don't even accept offers on any of my items.

I think the suggestion of messaging with a firm "it will not fit" is a good idea in addition to having added that ID to your BBL. Way too easy to get around the BBL with another ID, and do the same thing that you are worried about happening.

The thing about telling him that it definitely won't fit, is I don't actually know if that is definitively true. He never told me what brand of 1050ti that he has. And this company, Palit, did release a 1050ti that uses this exact same cooler. So I believe that there is a possibility that it might fit. It's just that I don't want him to buy the card, take it apart and possibly return it after that, as i'd be out for the original shipping and it's possible that he wouldn't put it back together in it's original fantastic condition.

Block him
This will not get better

It's an item that will sell in the first place, and probably to someone who wants to use it for what it is.
When a potential buyer of such an item starts getting wonky, well, it's okay to just eliminate them.
Too many good buyers out there than to deal with that joker.
I would just BBL them without anymore messages, if they try to by it and can't they will realize that they wore out their welcome.

I have to admit that when I read this, I said out loud, "Who cares?" 🙂 That is, this guy has raised enough red flags with you (especially with low-ball offers where none were solicited) that at this point it doesn't matter whether it fits; it is very likely that a sale to him would go sideways one way or another.
Turn him down firmly, and maybe that will persuade him that you know more about it than he does... which in fact you might. Certainly he doesn't know if the part will fit, and he wants to at least borrow your card to find out. I don't see any benefit to that.
