Promoting an Item

Do you guys fill that promoting an item is worth the money? I’m a newbie when it comes to how that increases views!

There are only so many collectors buying $1 sports cards. Promoting will not help you one bit IMO.

Re: Promoting an Item

You are basically selling trading cards. You business plan should be repeat buyers. I stopped promoting since I have a base of repeat buyers. You can promote a few but not all of them.

Re: Promoting an Item

I alternate fully promoted on ever listing vs then turning it off every few weeks. Honestly if the item isn't selling anyways, what's the hurt in promoting at the minimum (2%).  I will say though that if you turn it off, I think you still get dinged the fee if they buy it within 30 days (or some other time frame, make sure you read the terms & conditions).

I will say that I think if you are doing auctions, they charge that up front whether you sell or not, so maybe just try on your BUY IT NOW items for now.  I've only done that one time recently on an item and they charged $2.95 for the duration.

Everything is worth a shot at least one time if you want to maybe trigger some sales.

I've found more luck with End then Sell Similar, and then sending offers every day on every item being "Watched".

Re: Promoting an Item

PL's work best for those who sell in a competitive category.  If you sell unique items that are in demand, you'll be found anyway.  Personally, I sell in a super saturated market, so they help me a great deal.

Here's the thing though...if you use PLS (Standard) you're only paying if the item sells, so why not give it a test & see if it helps you or not.  That's the best way to know if anything is going to help you on Ebay.  Try it for a set period of time & then judge for yourself.

Re: Promoting an Item

My primary reason for utilizing e-Bay is liquidation. I began a test period 4 mos. ago and have definitely noticed an increase in views. Unfortunately for me, that has not carried over to more sales. That failure, though, is on me. It is my responsibility to list products a buyer desires at a price they are willing to pay.

I am currently at 2% and will remain there for 2 more months before I decide if it is to my advantage to continue with promoting my items. Most, but not all, of my listings are for DVDs, a saturated market.

Re: Promoting an Item

Good to hear.  I know about 4-6 months ago, I could be wrong on the time frame, you mentioned your method was to gain followers, even if it meant selling items at a loss or break even point...and not promoting.   Do you feel it's paying off?

US Airmail and first flight covers are tough to sell at the moment.  I wish I went your route when I first read your post months and months ago.

I always say that it never hurts to try at least once (unless it's throwing yourself off a cliff or something).
