Promoted listing warning..

So recently I was using some promoted listing, so far it wasn't so bad but recently I had a best offer for a sale, which I accepted. Then buyer asked to cancel, which I did.

I was charged $11.60 for the ad fees plus the final value fees.

When the order was canceled I got the final value credit back but I didn't get the $11.60 back.

Contacted eBay to ask why didn't I get it back? Been told it was not refundable!

I said I believed that I only pay if I sell, which was yeah, but doesn't mean you need to get paid..my point is. I guess the selling fees need to be clearer in this matter. It was a small amount so wasn't a big issue .But imagine if this was a high end item, you can end up paying big $$$$ while not actually making the sale. If the customer changed his/her mind you basically can end paying hundreds or thousands for... Nothing..

Sellers be extra aware of this..

Re: Promoted listing warning..

It seems from their information that they should credit you on your invoice.

From : https://p.ebaystatic.com/aw/sell/PLOptimizationGuide_Revised.pdf

"Is my ad fee credited back to me if the buyer doesn’t pay or returns the item purchased through Promoted Listings? If a buyer returns an item or doesn’t pay for an item, you’re eligible for an ad fee credit"

and from:  https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/promoted-listings.html#m22_tb_a5__4

"Is my ad fee credited back to me if the buyer doesn't pay or returns the item purchased through promoted listings?

Both your ad fees and ad rates appear on your eBay invoice. Ad fees will appear as a separate line on your eBay invoice and in detail where fees will be categorized by item. If eBay credited any ad fees back to you, you'll see this information on the invoice as well. You can also get up-to-date sales and ad fee details in your dashboard.

You should be able to see the credits on your invoice in the 'Discounts and credits' section. And the item level details under 'Promoted listing fee credits'."

It actually looks contradictory to what's in the policy to me...

"you're only charged for the ad if it's helped your item sell."

I don't see an asterisk beside the word "sell", so one can only assume they are using the standard definition for the word, which is...

"to give up (property) to another for something of value (such as money)"

If the buyer did not pay, then the item did not "sell".

1)  Though you may be eligible, that doesn't mean you will get it, or that you don't have to request it.  Seldom is it automatic that ebay refunds without a request.

2)  Nothing there says that you WILL be credited.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

If you go to the official policy page, it really doesn't mention much at all about NPBs, but it does have the quote I mentioned earlier about only being charged if your item sells.

Re: Promoted listing warning..

Yep, it only says IF your fees are credited ....

Nothing says they will be or when or how - by calling or what.  ebay is just as good at explaining things now as they have always been - not.

Re: Promoted listing warning..

They said is clearly, as fees are non refundable regardless sale was completed with a payment or was canceled.
