I promoted some of my items and just checked and each item is listed twice. Once by me and once by ebay with "promoted" above the listing. So all they are doing is listing our items twice. Then if it sells they charge us a promotion fee. How unfair is that. I don't see anywhere else my items are shown. No more promoting for me. I shouldn't have to. My items sold and now they don't. Did you ever notice other people are selling the same items as yours and theirs sell. Makes me think ours really doesn't show up all the time. Plus altho they show you a promotion fee, you can lower it. Just check on edit promotion. I will list everything I have and then I quite. Kinda sad as it has been almost 16 yrs. Good luck to everyone.

Promoted listings are valuable if your item is not on the first page of search ... unless it is on the first page for keywords, then sales will be rare.
If your item is already showing up high in search, then Promoted Listings are not really useful.

I did a lot of reviewing my promoted listings this past Saturday. Over 75% of my listings did not show the TWO listings. I was told by a rep on Saturday (when I called about the issue above) and when I asked if maybe the algorithm was too old and couldn’t handle the information being placed. She agreed and said yes and hopefully eBay will see that this is a problem with the volume of calls complaining about it. My hope is that they are taking that extra money so they can buy a new algorithm. She suggested that I only put ONE new listing a day and see if that helps. They don’t have answers. I have been so overthrottled for so long now that I am in financial ruins. I am self-supporting and on Social Security. It’s terribly hard to get these debts paid. I had to start using my buyer account to sell on since all of my listings were suddenly starting going to another country with a sales drop of 95%. When I started on my buyer’s account last August, things went very well. Based on the volume I was selling is what I bought for the Christmas sales. THEN my sales fell way down. About a month ago I had good sales, well at least one a day, but now I’m back to where I started. I am being forced out. Enough is enough.

The vast majority of eBay customer service representatives are completely ignorant about the inner workings of eBay. Most of them barely know half the policies. They are low-paid workers from the Philippines who read scripts ... when you ask a question that is not on the script, they just simply tell you anything you want to hear.
... so, it is pointless to even ask.

PL listings appear other places besides regular search...... on the sides, in the cross promotion stuff (lines of like/similar/also bought) in other listings, etc.
They charge you a fee because you agreed to pay one.......... I don't see that as unfair........

Now that fixed listings have to be Good Til Cancelled I'm wondering how this will affect Promoted Listings. Say someone is watching the item, it automatically relists, I lower the price and the Promoted Listing percentage I'd like to pay, but since they started watching the item before I lowered the percentage and then they buy the item at the lower price, will I be charged PL fee at the higher percentage?

When I search lowest price, then my lowest price disappears.

Not always. I have videos from this weekend showing the scrolling and either my listing showed or my promoted listing showed, but not both.

Every search I do shows duplicate listings and the promoted ones are generally lower on the list than the regular one. It really makes a mess looking at search results.
We're not allowed to have duplicates but its ok for ebay to do it.
