Promoted Listings?

Can someone please explain the promoted listings feature. What does it mean and how much does it cost. I have read and re-read the articles over and over and I just do not understand what it is and cannot find what the cost for it is? I would so appreciate it? Thanks so much! 😒  😁

Re: Promoted Listings?

So basically your paying an additional percentage for a "chance" at having one of these special spots? Kind of like a lottery? So if I were to give then 5% on top of the percentage being taken for the sale I would potentially be entering a lottery for one of these special spots in the search results?

aeparts1 from what I am understanding I am thinking the same thing. No Promotional listing.  Does not sound like it is really worth the additional fee.

That depends.  If you sell in a really saturated category, it may be very much worth it.  Only you can determine that.  They tend to work best for sellers who have a lot of competition.  Why not try it for a month & see if it works for you?  You decide how much to spend, so you'll know the risk going in.   I would reccomend only promoting your listings, not your store or doing off-site promotions.  Also, I found it works best if you promote everything.  You only pay if it sells.

When I first started it, my sales increased 3 fold, so it was very worth it & I'm in a highly saturated & competitive category.  That said, these days, I still do it b/c I find it's helpful, but now that everybody & their brother promotes, I'm not getting as stellar results as I did when it was new & a novelty.

If I were you,  I'd do what I usually reccomend with new features or changes, try it for a month or two & see if it works for you.  You can choose what percentage to promote at, so you can choose how much you're willing to pay to make the sale.  Also, I would not classify it as a lottery, you will get your items promoted, but whether or not it brings you sales will be impossible to know until you try.

Re: Promoted Listings?

be very careful as ebay has changes its wording on promoted general ads , if someone clicks on your ad ( does not buy  , just looks ayour listing ) and then if anyone else purchases this item with in 30 days ( even if they found the listing organically ) you get charged an ad fee , thgis is different as before only if the item was found by a customer through an ad you were charged , now its states if anyone else purchases ( even if organic ) desperation on ebay , be careful as this should drive ad fees way up

@jasoheat_0  the policy you are describing is currently in effect for Germany and will be going into effect next week for UK, Australia, France, Spain and Italy.

While some language on some of the .com policy pages has been updated indicating it's likely this will eventually come to the US as well, there has been no official announcement about it confirming if/when it will apply to the US site.

Re: Promoted Listings?

I wonder if any of the bean counters have calculated how many sales ebay loses to other markets because many of the ebay offerings that a casual buyer are going to see are going to be inflated by the cost of promoting it to where they can actually find it. Or because search does not return what best matches the buyers search necessarily but returns based on who paid the most for search placement

I am just going to go for the buyers who know how to search "price + shipping lowest first"

Re: Promoted Listings?

All it means is eBay make a LOT more money and you end up with near zero increase in sales.  I used the pay for clicks for a month.  The result:  $186 fees to eBay for $618 in sales.   So if you don't mind giving eBay 30% of your sale price to them, go for it.
