I no longer use promoted listings but some time ago I was experimenting, couple items I was ready to give up on I promoted at 50% to see what happened, nothing happened but tell me if I have this correct, if I were to promote something at 50% now, someone clicks on it and then within 30 days buys $1,000 worth of non promoted items from me I would be hit with $500 in promoted listing fees?

@bashort It depends on exactly what you mean when you say "$1,000 worth of non-promoted items."
If you mean "items that are not in a current ad campaign at the time of sale", then, no, you won't be hit with a fee.
If you mean "items that are in a 50% campaign at the time of sale, but shown to the buyer the same as if they were not in the sale (in other words, the word "sponsored" isn't mentioned), then yes, you will be charged the fee.
Here's ebay's definition:
Hope that helps.

Isn't this changing January 31st when promoting items?

Oh, and I'll just add: the fee is calculated on total sales price (item price plus sales tax and any shipping). So, it could actually be more than $500, unless the $1,000 amount is inclusive of sales tax and shipping.

I tried listing items at very high promoted rate and still do not see my exact same items under someone's else's exact same item.
I think maybe the trick is to list all items for sale at the same promoted rate...not just some.
In any case, with the new promoting thing happening in January I might turn 'the lights off' on all my promoted all listings. I have some old lingering promoted items still hanging around.

That is what I am going to do, promote every single thing at the exact same rate.

@12345jamesstamps Halo attribution will no longer exist as of Jan 13th. But @bashort asked about NOW, so I assumed he meant the current policy, which is what I provided.
Right now, there are two types of attribution rules: Halo and Direct. Both will end on the 13th, to be replaced by one new rule.
