The eBay Search Engine system is being a big problem. The paying of extra percentages has caused the basic searches not to deliver what buyers and looking for and it is effecting how much selling is getting done for the seller that eBay sends their bills to. I would like to think that I am the first priority client.

The problem is PROMOTED ADS. The system will SPAM SEARCH for items, unrelated to your stated search, to push those items and make it more difficult for SELLERS to get their items seen. I understand if there are twenty LENOX ETERNAL 16" OVAL PLATTERS, you pay an AD RATE to push yours to the top. However, unrelated items suddenly jump ahead, frustrating buyer and seller alike.

When I search different topics,

1. lenox kelly platter.....................First Item up is a SAUCER, fourth is BREAD PLATES...items not in the basic search parameter, sidestepping items that are actually the ones buyers were searching out.

2. wedgwood queensware gravy.....First item up SAUCER, in the TOP TEN items, four are not QUEENSWARE.

3.lenox eternal platter, third item is a fruit bowl,ninth a vegetable bowl.

ebay search is very primitive, many times when researching a item to sell I can not find any on ebay, then when I do a google search I end up right back at on ebay with several examples here all the time, same story when trying to contact ebay support, I searched and searched going in circles to call ebay support then I google it and immediate results.

the root cause of the search engine problem, is the buy it now problem. having millions of items that never sell and hang around in "stores" for years as buy it now or best offer.......there is a reason that auction houses have a dumpster on their premise. They pass items that get no bids and promptly take them to the dumpster

And both ebay mgmt and tech knows this, and does not do anything to effectively correct the problem.

So, in reality, ebay is actually not concerned their profits are going down due to their own created problems they clearly are aware of, yet continue to make worse via periodic "updates".

Its a lot easier to always blame sellers for everything, which is the default setting for ebay the last several years.

It doesn't help the seller promoting the item either. I noticed my promoted items increase my traffic but decrease my sales conversion. I don't think the system is intentionally showing unrelated items cuz the fee is after the sale. I think glitches in the item specifics cause problems in accurately identifying the items.

Its very frustrating when I can't find something simple like black loafers when I know there must be thousands listed.

My observation of this problem and in my opinion, is the fact that in this day and age is greed, most definitely. Either we as sellers accept the fact that we must and are really forced to make eBay a partner in our sales, cutting them in with up to 50% of our profits, to ensure web views. This is unfortunate but is starting to be a true reality.

It would be much better for everyone to completely abolish the promoted listings method and just raise eBays sales fee's to 20% and sellers all would be forced raise prices to compensate, maybe.

I have noticed with promoted listing I have sold 300 dollars in one month but only received 167 real dollars, is it worth It? I don't know, but it feels good to have some sales at a low profit and seems better than none at all.

eBay is constantly changing and the employee hire pool is dwindling and short of higher educated analyst I fear, and we, as part of eBay must adapt somehow, because, unless someone like the c.e.o hears us, we have no other choice but to try to keep our listing at the top of the search engine, good luck selling to everyone here.
