Problem with return process

I have an issue with the return process, maybe someone has a solution. A return was automatically accepted on my account. The buyer only shipped some of the items back. Why does ebay give you 3 days to inspect the return, then issue a full refund? I inspected the return, but I have to refund the buyer at least 50% of the purchase price. I did not agree with this decision, but did not have a way to offer a lesser amount. So I responded to the case with an explanation and pictures and escalated the case. Of course, ebay gave the buyer a full refund. I am out of money and merchandise. This is not the first time this has happened. Does anyone have a resolution to this problem? I would like to at least receive everything shipped to the buyer. Every time I use ebay's automated system I lose. I would love a representative from ebay to answer this question from me. What is the point in giving the seller 3 days to inspect a return if there is no recourse for the seller?

Re: Problem with return process

Welllllllcome to eBay, home of return fraud and seller impotency!

In all seriousness, you can try filing police reports. Sometimes the department will let you, sometimes they won't. Regardless you can get an incident report number, which is at least something. Appeal the decision to eBay and include the report number. That used to be enough to at least get some human eyes on the case, but odds are it won't do much good. eBay will tell you that's the cost of doing business and to move on. I have said it many times and will continue to do so: eBay is a disgusting, loathsome place for a seller to be a seller, and the second a better option comes along I'm taking my 20k a year in fees elsewhere.

well this is fraud and theft: file with law enforcement including the federal level and the USPS if that is how the item was shipped: or returned.

@cpu_king... ^^^ Boy, you said it. ^^^

You are a TRS offering 30-Day Returns, so you should be allowed to reduce the amount of the refund by up to 50%... not more , as 50% is the max. Are you saying that when the Return arrived, you did not  have that option? I ask, because I sell as you do, simply to have that extra layer of protection... we have so few. (It doesn't make me whole, but lessens the sting of a refund.) Only this week, I had a Return and I had the ability  to reduce the refund... it worked for me. But I issued the refund quickly... well beyond the 3-day window.

The only 'red flags' I see with your post is: 1) that the Return was automatically  accepted, which makes me think you didn't approve it quickly enough, and 2) the refund should have been issued during the 3 days you had to react... again, not approved quickly enough.

I know you want an eBay Rep to address your issue, but in these Forums, you'll only find buyers and sellers like you. Moving forward (and from my own experience), I can only recommend that you be more proactive. Anytime you ask eBay to help you manage your business, you'll lose. (Any 'explanation' and photos taken were only another waste of your time.) And to your point... every time  you use eBay's automated system, you lose. They truly don't want to be bothered with running your business.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but can tell you that this benefit does work... if you work it. Good luck.
