Price Gouging

Do these sellers realize that price gouging is illegal? I mean, $1,000.00 for 1 ounce of USED hand sanitizer while our nation is facing virus that is killing people is not just wrong, it's illegal. Then there is the fact that as fast as eBay is taking them down they are slipping by, by relisting them time & time again. With the above mentioned item being used, it is potentially not safe anyways. I just don't get how these people are going out buying up as much as they can, keeping it out of the hands of those who fall in the at risk groups & then thinking they will get rich while people are at risk of dying! I just find it really sad that some go that low in our nation. I just really want to know why are these items still for sell on eBay & still being allowed to be posted?

hand sanitizer DOES fall into illegal pricing. Any item that is Necessary for health, food, sanitary, medical, etc. is banned by law to be priced above it's NORMAL price range. CHECK WITH YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL's OFFICE. Items like toys, books, comics, etc. you can set any price you choose. ANY ONE WHO SELLS THESE NECESSARY ITEMS ABOVE RETAIL SHOULD BE TURNED OVER TO THEIR STATE ATTORNEY's OFFICE. IT IS ASO not legal to mail these items if over priced through the U.S. POST OFFICE as it is sending through the mail items sold illegally. YES I DID TALK TO BOTH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL's OFFICE and the U.S. POSTAL INSPECTOR's office in regards to this. It does not matter what state you are selling from when selling on the internet as you are offering it in ALL STATES.  KEEP in mind when you post in cyber space it is out there . Inworld War 11 they went after price gougers when the war was over. AMERICAN's DO NOT NEED to be greedy and self serving when so many in our country are dying.

I spoke with our Attorney General's office and I know for a fact they are looking and making note of individual's and companies price gouging. They are looking at both Amazon and E bay. They said they are getting lots of calls complaining of this practice. Also keep in mind that all of us  on line can SEE who these GREEDY people are. I have tagged them so in future I will never do business with them.

you are wrong. I talked to the Attorney General's office. Items like hand sanitizer ARE considered necessary. they are included as a medial and hygiene category. Most any item necessary for the health and well being are necessary items. Items that you can set at any price are things like toys, comics, items you do not need for you health, life and well being. HAND sanitizer is used in ALL HOSPITALS to prevent the spread of disease.

You must have me confused with some other poster.  I NEVER said in any posting on this thread or any other that hand sanitizers was part of what Ebay is tracking and closing listings when they are price gouging.  

Below is the list Ebay published in their announcement earlier this month but it should be noted it is not limited to this list.

Ebay sellers has raised the price sometimes 10 times more than normal prices on items we need to protect ourselves from cover 19. Alcohol, disinfectant sprays and wipes. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves! How are we going to stop this pandemic if we cant afford the products we need to fight it?

There is a way for EBay and other sites to report this type of actions to the FBI. I do know that there is a guy in the Midland Texas area that was removed from 3 sites and the FBI moved in and he is now in jail -- He was trying to sell one roll of toilet paper for 75.00 and when asked he said he bought it and he can sell for what ever he wants to, and if someone buys it then they are the stupid one -- that is why he is in jail now !!!

 So the sites need to report each and every one that does it !!!

Home Depot stopped sales of N95 masks and is directing stores to donate any stock to local hospitals. Our Harbor Freight did the same. Most other reputable retailers have done the same. Yet Ebay continues to allow the sales.

Price gouging is a markup of over 20 to 30% after a emergency is declared by the president. Its a prosecutable crime of a fine of 10,000 dollars and a prison sentence of 1yr.

The fact that these items are being bought up by the cart leaving none on the shelves just to price goug here should be a concern to everyone!

It's not like it's bubble gum or something that you can enjoy! This is stuff that could help save you, your family or other people's lives! But, with them selling them for hundreds or thousands of dollars, is just crazy! &, the fact that they are still being sold even after this thread started almost a month ago is crazy! If anyone was to look on the sold page of just about any house cleaner you will see that these sellers are making out Great (& so is eBay)!

Even right now as I type there is a case of 12, at by now of Lysol 12.5 oz spray selling for $550.00 with a $150.00 shipping. No, that's not price gouging? Not when normally a 19 oz can sells for $5.77 at Walmart, which would be for 12, $69.24 before tax & I know for a fact that standard shipping would in no way cost $150.00! Even at $70.00 a 10% mark up would only be $7.00 & a 100% mark up would be $70.00? But, yet there it is, not removed at all. As a matter of fact it says they have already sold 1 in 24 hours! But, if you can't afford it like everyone else can you can pay $50.00 a month for 12 months! 

Lets Not Mention That It Is Being Sold From BROOKLYN, NEW YORK! Where people could probably use it the most!!! If the people there would been able to buy it instead of someone selling it for such an outrageous price there might be less people dying there! Let's not mention that it's packaged like it was meant to go out on the floor of a supermarket floor & didn't make it. It is the same for any type of house cleaning sanitizer on all of the pages I have looked at ALL DAY here on eBay! But, with eBay making their 10% on the sell, plus with the % they make on the shipping of this item, why would they want to stop it. They are not having to even pay their customer service people like they were they are cleaning up! With the 2,706 buy it now with the on the search of Lysol alone!

That's not even close to their auctions that are going one for the same product! There are 1,394 Lysol items up for auction right now! & I'm sure everyone can afford $10.100.00 for a two pack of 19 oz Lysol, which I don't believe ANYONE would bid up that high! But, yet there are 50 bid's! That wouldn't be someone with another account raising it up or a few people playing a game to raise it up that high, because they have stay at home orders & have nothing better to do! But, with eBay making their 10% that would only be $1,010.00 fee, but hey they only have to pay $10.00 for shipping! But, it could go up seeing where as there is still 4 days & 13 hours left on the auction! 

One would think, but surly eBay would stop it, yet if you look at the sold section on the advanced search you will see that they have been being sold for days!

Let's look there!

That only makes eBays 10% at $5,010.00, buy hey they get free shipping & it Expedited shipping to boot! & ya it was just sold today so even if it wasn't someone playing with some of their friends the "NEW EBAY" game (let's help our friend bid up the prices until some sucker falls for it) eBay still has time to stop the sell & return or stop the payment.

Let's look at some sell's that did in fact go through! One can see by the feed back that some left for their a purchase's they made. 

I'm really NOT trying to say that eBay is meaning to let this happen, but with them not being able to stay on top of everything since they have had to send their customer service workers home,

I just think if these products were NOT being bought up in by money grubbing people, we would have less sickness in this country & way less death's!

SO WHEN PEOPLE ON THIS FEED SAY "DON'T BE SO FAST TO REPORT" it upsets me & I'm sure many others! I do hope that eBay WILL get these people's money back to them!

But, most of all I HOPE THAT EBAY WILL STOP THESE ITEMS FROM BEING SOLD! YES, EVEN IF IT MEANS THE ONES THAT ARE ONLY MARKING THEM UP 10%! I MEAN, IF THEY WERE ON THE SHELVES OF PEOPLE'S LOCAL STORES & SUPERMARKETS, IT COULD SAVE LIVES!!!  I LOVE BEING ABLE TO BUY ON EBAY & DO NOT BUY FROM ANY OTHER PLATFORMS LIKE AMAZON! BUT, I WOULD RATHER SEE THE DEATH TOLL'S FROM THIS VIRUS STOP GOING SO HIGH, SO FAST!

Looks like eBay isn't even trying anymore. There's a name brand hand sanitizer that has been up for nearly six hours, and the same seller just sold a single bottle for over $10,000 that had been up for a while as well.

Honestly, do you really believe that people are really paying 10 grand for some Purell.  See my previous post on what I think is happening.

And yes, report everything you see like this, it does help.  Ebay may not take care of things in your timeframe as it isn't the only listing they have to contend with, but they are removing them.  Mostly fixed price listings get removed and not as much on auctions.  But FP listings get removed on a regular basis.  Which is why there are so many new listings.  The others were removed.
