Potential buyer asking for odd pictures of item

I have a potential buyer of a Louis Vuitton handbag that I’m selling. She claims that she recently bought a Louis Vuitton bag on eBay, but the seller scammed her and sent a Coach bag instead.

So she’s asking me to write her name on a piece of paper and take a picture if the bag with her name next to it. To prove its real?

I tried explaining that it’s actually going to go through the eBay authenticity guarantee and there’s no way it could be a scam. She still wants me to do that with her name in the picture.

I think this is very weird. Anyone else have a similar situation? Or understand why she would want that?

Thanks!

I think she wants a pic to prove you have the bag.  Write today's date on a piece of paper instead of her name.

That buyer is giving up clues they are brewing up an INAD return.

Don't think you can get any clearer than going through eaby's authenticity program?

Like having remorse before even purchasing...

I would ignore the messages and hope they go away.

Why would a buyer want a picture with HER name on it? If she were questioning and verifying that you have the item, wouldn't she request YOUR name in the picture?

Followup. Yes, you can get scammed through authentication.  Seller mails the wrong size or color or style Nikes and you can't  return them. They aren't reading descriptions. They're pulling a pair of Nikes out of a box and giving them the once over and putting them back in the ok to forward pile. I can see that happening with a bag. Is this bag authentic? is all they have on the brain.

I think you should tell the potential buyer that all pictures of the bag are posted for viewing and the item has been authenticated.  If she has any reservations or concerns, perhaps they should look elsewhere and that you appreciate their consideration just the same.  Cover your a**...you never know.

Red flags for sure.  Not all Sellers are legit - who knows though.

I don't engage with these type of potential suspect Buyers any more.  Too many headaches and always a problem sale.

I would respond politely, but firmly.

Dear Buyer

Thank you for your interest in our items.  It is very much appreciated.

Our items are authentic and verified by e-Bay.  We regret we cannot accomodate your unusual picture request.

Thank you again for your interest.

Don't do it. This could possibly be used in a scam that we don't know about yet.

Especially if they are interested in your most expensive handbag.

Wait for a better buyer

Me, too. I'd not accommodate that request.

We wouldn't reply and we'd put the person on our block list.

Re: Potential buyer asking for odd pictures of item

Just a guess, but perhaps the "buyer" plans to "sell" the bag (bag of vapor)  herself, snag you photos and description. Thus a photo of "her" name in in the lot might serve to convince someone else that she really has the bag.

The potential buyer is most likely a scammer!

wanting you to supply photos to support their scam for their other purchase!

Wake up people!

Report to eBay!!!

Re: Potential buyer asking for odd pictures of item

Personally I don't see what the big deal is? People have been asking for pictures of items next to newspapers showing current date for years even before eBay became a big thing, when buying online. I would however not show my name, that does not prove anything. What does their feedback show and how long have they been on eBay?

The potential buyer wants her own name on the piece of paper, not the OP's. Not sure whether that came across clearly . . .

Yup. She's gonna use the photos to prove that she is in possession of said bag to "sell" to some unsuspecting victim.
