Did you mean:

Positive only thread.

Look, a lot of people hate selling here, I get it. But reading all the negativity on here gets old. So I'm making a thread only about positive events.

Examples: something sold higher than you expected it to, a transaction went better than expected, you found a storage unit you can easily sell for 20X more than you paid for it, etc.

Since starting my business in May of 2012, I have donated over 6,000 pounds of unusable aluminum cans and scraps from my ornament making business to our local animal shelter for recycling.  The animal shelter uses the money they generate from recycling the cans and scraps to purchase bedding, laundry soap, bleach and toys.

Folks, I just had to say that mcdougle's Christmas ornaments are wonderful! I bought half a dozen last year for my tree when I stumbled across his/her things, and for next Christmas I plan on including them in Christmas cards to family. Take a look, they are so clever!

I'm iffed about markdown manager being changed, but... I'll get over that. Positivity and all. 😛

I've sold 190 items this month thus far for mad profit.

I had a garage sale where I got there first and someone was giving away 300+ items for FREE (they were nice people) and I scooped it all up and explained I have an Ebay store, and they were nice about it. I just sold a book I got from the free pile for $50 the other day, and many things also flew right off the shelves over the past few weeks.

I also made a pile at a yard sale of 200 really amazing items and I was expecting the price to be super high but they simply wanted $100 for everything, making it .50 cents per item. I already made $1,000 off that pile and haven't even listed everything or sold everything yet.

This Saturday, after yard sales, I'm stopping by my usual go-to thrift store which is having a 50% off storewide sale. Last time I went, I filled up 5 full carts. I spent probably $80 on everything and wound up taking hundreds of items home. I recall buying some collectible items for 10 cents or so and selling some of those for $30. Also bought some collector plates for .25 cents and sold 3 of those for $20-30 each, making my profits at least $60+ so I can't wait to go back and fill up many more carts full of super cheap stuff that I know I'll make an incredible profit on.

I was thinking about your post in regards to the thrift store. I only sell books but for a while I was visiting the local Goodwill. I haven't been back lately because they didn't have enough saleable books and the prices were quite high. I didn't really scour the store because I don't know anything about collectibles but I really didn't see anything that made me at least think "hmm, that might sell on ebay".  I tip my hat to the sellers here who know collectibles.

The top "positive" about ebay for me are the customers. I mostly sell on Amazon and what a difference! I don't assume Amazon customers are that much different, but the sites are different and ebay has a much more personal vibe. Though back in the day it was even more so.  Lots of people formed friendships derived from ebay transactions. I'll never forget the exchange I had with one woman when PayPal first came out and we were both thrilled that I got payment so fast and her item right in the mail.  Everything was just more sparkly back then.

Re: Positive only thread.

Congatulations!    I retired just over a year ago.

More time for ebay and sales are fantastic.     I hope the same for you.

At 6pm UK time today, I will be retiring at aged 58.

My kids will be doing all the work in the future, while I put my feet up doing nothing, but will still be making money.

I can't think of anything more positive than that..

Oh yes I can actually.

If I live till I'm 67, I will also receive my state pension on top..grin

Congrats! I am 56 and think about retiring a lot except that I quit working for the Man in 2001. Also, as long as my body can take it I plan to keep working at my business because I like it despite all the grumbling and the days are too long to fill just sitting around the house. My husband was talking full retirement at 63 or something until recently when he was just ill enough to stay home but not in bed and he got horrendously bored. He's a lawyer and I tell him to just cut back to part time. He loves to hike but I doubt even he can can hike all day, every day.

That reminded me of when my mum got her British pension, which mostly confused her.

A whole £5 a month, and the cheque came in her maiden name, which she had not used since 1936. (Scotland leaves a woman's birth name as her legal name, we learned.)

Up 57% over last year... not sure how, but that's what eBay claims.

I track it myself.    I have a big calandar hanging where I can see it.    Every morning I write yesterdays sales total on the correct date.

I don't like ebays math skills.

1st 6 months 2018 I'm up about 62% for the year.

I retired last year so I have more time to work it.     That'd explain some of it.

Re: Positive only thread.

Sold a study bible I picked up for 25 cents for $55, sold a game I got at the GW for $4 for $45, sold a $1 t-shirt for $60 - and believe me I truely needed the sales as none of my other items were moving. These were all - it's cheap enough - I'll take the chance purchases.

Meanwhile - hoeing out all those stagnant pieces and either going to donate them or have a garage sale. You get so much smarter the longer you've been here and the more you educate yourself by reading the boards and watching the vloggers on what to look for that WILL sell.

Re: Positive only thread.

Coincidentally I just wrote a post that totally fits this topic. It's about how numerous buyers were very nice and gave me leniency during a time that I really needed it. One buyer in particular made my wife cry because of the nice things he did for us.

Re: Positive only thread.

I just checked them out; they are so unique & creative! And I really like your idea of including them in Christmas cards. We have both fans of Pepsi, Root Bear, ect in the family, as well as Pet lovers (love the fact that He donates the rest to help the humane shelter; my kitties thank him!). Definitely going to send some business his way.

@mcdougle4248 love your designs! I wish you much success/sales in the future!

Re: Positive only thread.

Thanks for this thread!
My positive event is finding this thread. It's a nice break from the negative and we need more of this! I'm kind of new to eBay as both a buyer and seller. The atmosphere can really get a person unmotivated. In reality, however, I have really excellent buyers, I like selling what I sell, I'm not in a position to do it without eBay, and can't really say I'd want to. So there's my positive.

Re: Positive only thread.

Yes, my best sales have been here on ebay... i have tried alreadyother sites, nothing works as great as ebay. My store is mainly collectibles, my own artwork. I was realky surprised when I sold a barbie vintage doll that I had paid $10 for at the flea market, and got $110 for it here on ebay. And an Alf puppet (the martian) that I bought at the flea market for $1, got sold for $35 . So, these exciting momets, plus my artistic custom dolls getting sold, are what keep me motivated and grateful. Thanks for this positive thread! We all need positivity in our lives. Good luck selling to everyone! 🌸💕🦋
