I sold a rare pack of vintage 1940s playing cards with the tax stamp sealing the pack. Sold within minutes for $125. The guy just opened a return saying he’s been buying this brand for 15 years to send overseas to his family. He always buys them at Costco or BJs. He is saying “my cards are terrible quality, soft and flimsy”. He thinks they are “not original” and he’s “not satisfied.”
I KNOW he didn’t open 80 year old cards as that high value is in that they are sealed. This went to a private residence in California—not a reshipper. He sent one of my listing photos back to me of the sealed box (not the flimsy cards he supposedly found). In all my years I’ve never had blatant robbery like this occur. Is there anything I can do not to accept this return? I wouldn’t care if he sent it back in original condition.

Best case, I get my cards back unopened (because no one who pays $125 for this collectors item is opening them). Worst case, I get a sock or something worse. This guy has one feedback on a new account. Thanks anyway all.
Sellers are always coming here complaining they have to accept a return, after the buyer has opened a rare, old, item that was sealed and now the item has lost some value.
Hope you get the cards back.

You are more than welcome. I sincerely hope you get the cards back that you sent the Buyer. Please post back here when the return is complete.
I use the FREE 30 day Returns setting on all my listings. For Seller Protections it is rare but I have taken full advantage of those too. Sadly, whether it is eBay or other venues it is hard to protect against all of the criminals that use the internet to steal from other people. There is no infrastructure to catch and prosecute them ...

If what you get back is not what you sent (which I suspect will happen) be sure to report that to the USPS Postal Inspector and the FBI IC3 site. It may do no good, but thieves are thieves and they probably do it to others, hopefully in time they will get taken down.

Exactly ,
Ebay never protect seller . Actaully ebay uses French philosophy to mitigate shocks and give justifications for mistakes, as if they were your parents trying to teach you how to move. The truth is that they do not care who stole from whom , all that matters to them is the continued flow of fees

Boss i am sorry about wat happen to you , i know how this bad
The moderators of this place do not care about what happened to you. They don't believe what you say, no matter what you say. The funny thing is that they have laws to protect the seller and the buyer, but when a problem arises, you find yourself spiraling into a spiral and do not know how to defend yourself. Ebay woman may appear to help you who regrets what happened to you and is fully prepared to help you. She even explains the problem to you completely in order to make you think that she is fully informed. The truth is They are very big joke and you got trapped and stuck with ebay. and you will not get anything. YOU will realize the problem is between you and ebay . advice If you have something valuable, do not sell it on ebay. Or sell it by receiving cash hand in hand.
WE are very happy closing our store and get out from this un safe place

UPDATE
Well, two things. The thief changed the house number (not my name) on the return to a non-existant house number (correct street). However, my mailman and I are besties and I was at the mailbox waiting for my “return”. The guy sent me a small vacuum bag, not my sealed antique cards.
I’ve been on eBay for 25 years. This guy has 1 feedback. Clearly this is outright theft. What can I do from here. I did not offer free returns so does that mean I don’t get at least half back?

Step #1 is REPORT THIS BUYER. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/report-issue-buyer?id=4084&st=3&pos=2&query...
I don't mean report them just because they deserve it and "maybe" eBay will do "something" to them. I mean because it's just like filing a police report if your car is stolen, as in, crucial to any hope you may have of suffering less-or-no loss, yourself.
Step 2: Go to the Return Details page, look to the bottom right, click 'Problem with return' (I think), and report the same facts there.
Now I say that, but when I had this exact same situation just last week, when I tried to submit that second report, I kept getting an error page. So I contacted eBay For Business on Facebook. -Turned out, my first report had already gotten the buyer kicked off eBay. They were no longer a registered user, so their return was thus DEAD. That's why I kept getting the error. And this all happened within minutes. 😀

I've found a service called www.ChargeBackBoss.com They seem to have actual plans to recover from ebay return fraud. I'm gonna give them a try.
