Please Help! Is this a violation of the Feedback extortion policy?

Here is the situation. Our Buyer bought the Item on the 26th of December at a best offer price.  Then they messaged my at 6:57P on the 27th. "8 days for delivery???!! You must be kidding! TERRIBLE." I then assured them that the item would get there sooner and that I would upgrade shipping to make them happy. I knew right away that this buyer was trouble.  We did this even though the listing said "ECONOMY SHIPPING". They got the item on December 30th. Today they gave me negative feedback as follows. -  "It works but that’s all I can say. It’s VERY BEAT UP, VERY SCRATCHED and WORN"

I then messaged them and told them that I was disapointed and wished that they would have contacted me to fix the issue before leaving feedback. They then replied - "Refund 1/2 of the purchase price and I will update. I knew I was purchasing a used item but never dreamed someone would sell something so beaten up. It’s a good flashlight for $10/15 bucks but not for $35"

We process tons of order and I have never dealt with a customer quite like this. Is this a violation of the Feedback extortion policy?

Thanks for your help

It doesn't matter now, if it is .. or not.

They've already negged.

REFUND them 1/2 and they will NOT follow their promise to revise.

This transaction is done.

Block them.

Only tell them this:

I'm sorry you're not happy with your item.

Please return for a full refund of your original payment.

Do Not post a follow up reply to your Neg  (yet)

In a week, add this follow up:

Offered Full Refund After Item Return.

You upgraded their shipping and they still gave you a neg.

Do do you think they will do anything if you give them half their money back?  But if it were me I would contact ebay, upload the message and ask that they remove it for feedback extortion.

Get the right CS and they might just do it for you.

You can try sending the buyer a feedback revision request.

Also, have the buyer return the item for a refund. Good luck

to you.

Buyer already stated they want partial first.

And even after upgrading shipping after buyer complained it would take 8 days they still negged.

You cannot trust this buyer.

What you need to do is immediately stop making vague listing descriptions. Works great is not good enough as you will continue to have these problems. Your picture was very dark and unless you made this post, many would have never looked close enough to see all the wear and scratches on the flashlight. Your description should have said it was worn and has scratches, but works.

So you're saying that renegotiating the deal through feedback extortion is OK in this case, then? Confused.

OP probably should have waited until spring to list the item its freezing across most of the US and paint can chip during shipping due to the cold temps...

The only chips I see here are the bargaining chips being used by the buyer. if it's that bad it's pretty amazing that they want to keep it this badly.

I don't think that is what cool meant georg ...

I think he meant (and I agree) that to avoid complaints about condition in the future, better descriptions and pictures might be a good idea.

I don't think that he was condoning the bully tactics that this buyer is employing (and had employed from the beginning re shipping). Nor was he condoning the feedback extortion.

@gramophone-georg

One of two things need to happen. The OP can give a partial refund for their misleading description (no way is the flashlight worth that price), or they can pay for the buyer to return it. So to your answer, YES.

Well, he just said YES he was in all caps in the post below yours, so... looks to me like that poster is encouraging policy violations in this instance. Hopefully not.
