Picture in the text part of the listing.

I stumbled across a listing for some bbq sauce.

(Budweiser Barbecue Sauce Pick 1: Classic, Honey or Sweet & Smoky 18 oz Bottle)

There is a picture in the text part of the listing.  Reminds of of old ebay days when that's how everyone did it.

I thought that wasn't allowed anymore?

As far as I know, it's still allowed to use self-hosted images in the body of a listing.  You could double check on the Tools and Apps board.

@inhawaii   What eBay has eliminated from the Description  area is "active content" ...

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

The restriction of text had more to do with google search result restrictions from what I remember. eBay's system used to flag my listings all the time because my photos were that good regarding items with text on them. I think they may have dialed back the policy due to the problems it caused.

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

I have always, and still do, put pictures in the body of my listings.

I have seen reports/complaints on these boards, and I have been directly affected, by the "gallery" pictures suddenly being dropped.

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

It's still allowed as long as it's a secure link "https" and doesn't contain active content.

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

I used to have a repeat of the gallery photo as a single picture centered at the top of my text (I used to design forms and in general close proximity of text and illustration helps with comprehension). Then my hosting site didn't follow security changes and I had to get rid of them. I was just going to host the things myself, then decided it wasn't really worth the hassle - instead I just made my photos bigger so that they zoomed better.

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

Remember when you'd see an entire listing description uploaded as one big jpg? I'm not sure why, but I think people did that so others won't steal parts of their listing. Either that or it allows them to revise the listing content without actually revising the listing.

I think the second may have been a big reason. Geez - remember when people could change the colour of the entire listing page?  But most of all, I miss hotlinking. Smiley Very Happy Dang, some funny stuff was done to listings with stolen photos.

Re: Picture in the text part of the listing.

From what I have read in the forums you can have embed text as long as you pay / use 1 of eBay's partners tools to embed it. Also the text can not direct traffic away from eBay.
