Does everyone realize they are going to charge 25 cents per item in any given transaction. For example if a buyer buys 10 different packs of seeds from me and checkouts with one payment in one transaction paypal charges me 2.9% plus 30 cents period!. If you use ebay managed payment for that same transaction ebay charges you 2.7% and 25 cents for each item so in other words 25 cents times 10 items whereas paypal only charges 30 cents one time no matter how many items are in a single transaction. That is outrageous. On a $1 item they are taking 1/4 of my items price just on the fee so with paypal that would cost me 59 cents for the fees just for the payment, Ebay would charge me $2.79 just for the fees on the payment of 10.00 in sales that had 10 items in it. That does not even include the 9.15% fee they will charge for the regular fees which would be 91 cents more. Are they nuts? That is facts people. You better read very carefully before you switch to it and when ebay makes it mandatory i will be leaving ebay for good. Ebay you have become nothing more than greedy thieves. Again those are the facts people. If you sell cheap small items it will destroy your business or you will have to raise your prices even higher and why would people want to pay even higher on ebay when they can get the same item from the same seller who are on better marketplaces with cheaper prices. Ebay this is the last nail in your coffin. Whoever is leading you with these new policies they are going to put you right out of business as other marketplaces are already putting a hurting on you. Ebay you better wise up. No way you will ever get 25 cents per item on a single transaction from me with multiple items in it that should be only one fee as it is one transaction. You want us to give good combined shipping prices to buyers and then your going to try and pull this nonsense. Not with my business you will not.

Why is it every time ebay says “it will cost sellers less!!! Or sellers will have more protection!!! It turns out to be the exact opposite?
not that it matters much to me, I have my exit plan and have been working toward its for over two years.
by the time ebay managed payments are mandatory? Bye bye ebay!

@mvls1 wrote:User agreement aside, how is it reasonable to charge sellers .25 per listing more than early MP enrollies if you would not allow ALL sellers access to MP? Then if they turned it down too bad for them.
This would be the foundation to file a legal challenge to this unfair and deceptive money grab.

@thegardeningworld I think one of the key points you've made is low priced items will not be user friendly with managed Payments. The MP program has an awful lot of short comings so it will be interesting to see what happens once every Seller is forced in to the program
Some other parts it is really really lacking in is cash flow and available accounting information. Waiting 2-3 days for one's money is totally ridiculous when the benchmark is PayPal where the money is available immediately. Accounting is the next stumbling block ... again PayPal already has that solved with their date range programmable CSV formatted database. eBay's canned reports will not include Shipping costs because Sellers will be using PayPal so that info will NOT be in any database in eBay. The PP database allows you to sort by State to pull out your IN state shipments for Sales Tax reporting and remitting ...
From the PayPal database here's what you can sort and pull out in short order
1. Total sales
2. Total In state shipped sales
3. Total eBay Monthly invoices paid
4. Total PayPal Fees paid
5. Total Shipping paid by Seller
6. Total Refunds
Now, just so you know ALL that information IS available in Adyen's database. But since eBay has positioned themselves between Sellers and Adyen they have not created a secure portal for Sellers to log in to Adyen to GET OUR TRANSACTION INFORMATION.
To sum it up ... more work for Sellers and more time to wait to get paid. That's a Lose-Lose situation from my perspective.

Great analysis. I agree totally. Yes it is really bad on low prices items like mine. I also have a sports business on ebay with high price items which will not be that bad at all but ebay will need to change this for low priced items that are under say $2.00 because that is just unacceptable to be charged 25 cents on 1.00 items. I get sales of 40 packs of seeds sometimes and that would be $10 plus 2.7% in fees on a $40 order of 40 $1 items. Outrageous. Ebay will lose bigtime on this as there are countless sellers like me with less than 2.00 items. I will not stand for it. I am getting well established now everywhere else and soon i will not even need ebay so i will gladly give my money to someone else.

I really don't think it matters since everyone is going to be mandatoried into it but as for me being crazy, I'll take that as a compliment.

Etsy charges that if you do not have a membership and it is free per month so i pay absolutely nothing for an etsy store and i can list as many items as i want to and all they charge me is 20 cents for an item to list that staays there for 4 months if it does not sell and then they charge me about the same as paypal does for sale fees.. If you pay for a monthly store they either do not charge the 20 cents or it is less. I know as i sell there as well. We already pay monthly high membership store fees here on ebay so them trying to get it again at the backend is outtrageous because now with a store you get say 1000 listings free with a 59.99 store, now you get no free listings because ebay will get 25 cents on the back end for every listing that sells even if it is in one transaction making free listings nullified. They might as well came out and said we are going to now charge 25 cents per listing no matter if you pay for a store membership or not because that is exactly what they are doing and it will destroy ebay. Whoever is running things does not know what they are doing and they are diffing a hole for themselves.

Etsy works in a very similar fashion, according to my friend who sells there. The way she explained it, if you get multiple sales off a single listing, you are charged a "relisting" fee for every one of them that sells. In other words, if you make a listing with a quantity of 5 and someone buys 3, you are charged $.20 for each of those three items. The fee is per item sold regardless of whether it comes from the same listing or from different listings.
That is true but that is a completely different fee and has NOTHING to do with money processing. It is how Etsy does their listing fees.

@mvls1 wrote:I just received the offer to join managed payments today and carefully read the offer details. As the original poster has stated, you will be charged .25 per ITEM not per transaction! It is very specific in the offer details that the .25 applies for each item in the order.
If the buyer buys several from the same listing and or a variation listing you will only get a 0.25 fee for the single item number not each purchase.
It really should be looked at as per transaction per item number fee. Same item number purchases inside the same transaction will have the single 0.25 fee.
Good Luck Selling!
Yes you are absolutely correct. But for some sellers this is going to be a huge fee to contend with. At a minimum sellers will need to raise their pricing my at least 28 cents to cover the listing transaction fee and the selling fees since you need to raise your sales price. By itself, it doesn't at all look like much. But for sellers of low $$ items it is a huge issue.
Yes I understand. I am grandfathered into MP so I will not have this fee when it starts but I also am not for this policy. I asked eBay staff (weekly chat) about it when it was added to the payment terms of use with a generic answer and I doubt they will answer any more about it in the weekly chat.
My best guess is that these lower priced single item listings are not generating enough business? Sellers will need to find a solution for these kinds of listings. Sellers should consider smaller discounts for combined shipping to help cover these extra costs.
Maybe start adding a handling fee to cover this cost?
Good Luck Selling!
You are grandfathered until you are no longer grandfathered which could be in as little as a month after everyone is opted in. You know better than to believe things they say!

With the new payment fee this will certainly take out most of the lower cost items that might normally ship in an envelope without tracking. Sellers will have to do more bundles, like 5 packs of seeds for 5.00.
This fee could be eBay's way of removing these lower priced items because in the not too distant future eBay might require all shipment to have tracking? Just speculation. I have no knowledge that this is what they are planning.
eBay has to weigh these changes and fees for the good and bad they create. It will not be good for some sellers but most should be able to find ways to make it work for them.
Good Luck Selling!

I sell coins. I believe this category will be affected by the fee structure more than most
categories. Many customers buy from several listings at a time. This MP fee structure
will require most sellers to raise prices I believe.

I won't opt in, half my stuff I sell goes by combine shipping, it'll raise my fees $75-$125 per month. When I do I'll have to add .30 to my combined shipping rate and with increase postage plus states taxes I won't be selling online much longer. Us small sellers are a dieing breed

When total sales (gmv) on the site are down as they have been the last several quarters, why would eBay want to remove any listing?
Unless the current management team is looking to spend more time with their families in the near future they need every dollar of sales they can get, because long run total site gmv is all that will matter.

More likely nothing more than $ and CENTS! Ebay's $ from our CENTS!
