Paypal fees...look through every transaction? This is what they're telling me. Oi..

I just got off the phone with paypal. I have a personal account on there, which I need to switch to business, but I needed to run  some reports. I wanted to see how I could easily itemize shipping fees, paypal fees, ebay fees, etc, for tax purposes. She is telling me that I have to go through every single transaction and add up the PP fees myself. Is this true? I have over 1000 and that would take forever to do. Can anyone tell me how I can do this more efficiently? Or is there no way? In today's computer age there HAS to be a better way. Thanks!

Please someone tell me a different way to find my transactions with sales tax.  I have 700 sales a month this is ridiculous!

You can download a history of transactions into an excel spreadsheet.  Hide things you don't want to see.  The sales tax column can then be summed and voila you have your total sales tax.  You can group sales transactions together, shipping together, etc.  It was the easiest way for me at tax time to have all the information in a format in excel that I was able to group, sort, and add calculations to.  I also would print the monthly sales report on paypal which showed sales fees, etc.

Have been looking for this download option too ... not sure it exists unless you have a business account.  I only have a personal account.  Does it exist with personal?

(1) I do have a business account with them and still, when I log in and click on tax report, it says, you have NO report. What gives?

(2 ) And I do not really like that they have removed the running balance column from the Activity page. What an inane idea!

(3) Some of the refunds I have received show as Refund, then when I click on it, it says in the left upper corner,
INVOICE. So now I have to comb through those transactions to see why the refund never hit my CC. I told all of this to a man at PPal CS and he was just shaking his head, completely agreed to points 2 and 3, but of course, as usual, CS cannot really help much, even if they see the problems.

Wasn't this company run by J. Donahue, after he left eBay, for a while?

Change your account to a business account and then download the detailed reports.

Every year it is a painstaking hours long process of printing all my paypal statements, highlighting and adding up paypal fees. It is a long process but.. better then paying your tax specialist to do it for you. I have been doing this for years.. I really should switch to a business account.

You don't need a PayPal business account!

Go to the PayPal "Activity" page.

Upper right corner, click on "Statements"

Select "Custom Reports"

You end up on the same page as your screen shot!

The only difference between a personal account and a business account is the navigation to the reports page. Once on the page the report options are the the same.

You don't need to be doing all that work.  You can download the detailed report into a worksheet program.  I use Microsoft Excel.  Sort it and total it in the way that works best for you.  And away you go.  All the info you need, and some you don't, is on the detailed transaction reports.

If you don't have Excel you can use Open Office which is free.
