Payment dispute funds released...Dispute remains open

Hi everybody

Long story short, Back in April (25th) I sold an item to a buyer located in China who used a parcel forwarding company here in the UK. They received it in China (8th May) all good, feedback left etc.

On 15th June, I am notified by eBay that the buyer had initiated a chargeback with their payment institution for a SNAD case. Funds were placed on hold, I immediately contacted eBay and was advised to submit all evidence.

I had no communication with the buyer nor have they given any impression that they were dissatisfied which I left me confused. The main concern was getting the item back, and was quite happy to pay shipping direct from China.

On 20th July, eBay updated the dispute page telling me that the buyer had provided a tracking number...I had no email regarding this, so it was a case of seeing the case details on eBay.

After many failed attempts by the courier service DPD cancelling the slots on their part, they finally managed to deliver it. The buyer had sent me a well packaged box with nothing but heavy duty cardboard and bubble wrap. I contacted eBay agents and they just told me to wait for the case to close so I could appeal...this was very frustrating, I felt I was on my own and no help was being given, I felt I needed to complain.

Someone from Executive Escalations UK contacted me and advised me of the terms and conditions and was reminded that the buyer can initiated a chargeback and when that occurs I lose seller protection but some protection will be in place...I'm guessing appealing ?

It's been very stressful and my mental health has been through the roof. Upon reviewing the case again I noticed that the buyer was no longer registered, then the placed hold on funds was released..of course the case remains open. I've contacted eBay agents again and they are unable to confirm it, only to state the case is still open and the funds would only be on hold if it were an eBay dispute, but I told them if was previously on hold up till 11th August when it showing 'released'...Again I need to wait for the case to reach a decision.

The person from Executive Escalations UK team contacted me today and noted everything and confirmed they did indeed take action against the buyers account, and they had removed the hold on the disputed funds. I was told to contact eBay as soon as a decision has been made by the buyers payment processor.

My main concern is getting back the item, I know that won't happen now what with the buyer removed from eBay.

I'm so worried. It's alot of money, and the item is rare..the thought of losing one or the other is unbearable, I know I shouldn't have sold an expensive item on eBay...I know that now. This will be a lesson learnt for sure.

Has anyone else had their funds released even though the dispute remains open ?

Hey @poppyagogo . This is the .com forum and policies may differ on .co.uk so if you want to start a discussion on the .co.uk site you can visit community.ebay.co.uk

I don't think you'll get the item back. But it sounds like you don't have to worry about the funds since eBay went ahead and released them already. If for any reason the claim is closed out against you, contact eBay CS and they should reimburse you since they NARU'd the buyer.

Thanks for your response. Is there a way of deleting this or will it be deleting by moderator ? (if there is one)

You don't have to delete it. You're welcome here any time. Just keep in mind that policies can differ between sites so a discussion around policy is better on your "home" site, but if you want to keep a general discussion about payment disputes and holds you may still find some interesting info here.

If you prefer to have the discussion deleted or locked, click that little arrow in the upper right corner of your original post and select "report inappropriate content" and ask the moderator to delete as you intended to post on the UK site. Mods should help you out @poppyagogo .
