Payment Issue

Hi,

Has anyone dealt with big furniture purchases? I'm selling a Mahogany Corner China Cabinet and a potential buyer is requesting the following:

I really appreciate your response. I'll like to buy this Mahogany Morganton Curved Glass Corner China Cabinet for the exact price of $400, so I will employ you to withdraw it from eBay. I will also like you to know that the payment will be paid via a certified bank check, You'll release the Mahogany Morganton Curved Glass Corner China Cabinet once the check clears at your bank. Kindly provide me with the following information below to facilitate the mailing of the certified check. Your full name to be on the check, Address, City, State Zip code Phone number

Kindly get back to me as soon as possible so the payment can be sent to you.

Regards

Note- Regarding the Shipping, I have a private Movers firm that handle pickups for me so you don't have to worry about that as it will be handled by them, so your price should exclude shipping fee.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Re: Payment Issue

Take off obo not worth it. Ebay should not allow it for new sellers. Its a scam. Btw even if their not trying to scam you most will just not pay.

Re: Payment Issue

Best explanation I've seen here so far is from lamber9347 at message #5 above. (The FB she is talking about stands for feedback, not Facebook).

This is a popular scam on CraigsList as well. When I list a large or even a smaller higher-value item on CraigsList, I usually immediately get a few of these scammers contacting me. Here at eBay, just ignore them and wait for a legitimate buyer that shows up as actually paying you in your My Ebay > Orders. Report this kind of scammer and immediately put their User ID on your Blocked Buyer List.

BTW, the "cashier's check" may clear your bank, but it would later be declared bogus and you would be out the money - of course after you had already sent the item to the scammer. That's the scam.

Cheers, Duffy

Re: Payment Issue

My bank always calls the bank that issued the cashier's check to verify it. And they don't call any numbers that are on the actual check but call using a list they maintain.

Last time I took a cashier's check is was actually issued on the same bank that I use and my bank still made the call to verify it. They wouldn't even deposit it until they made the call.
