Paying Fees For Scam

So I had this guy win my Auction the other day, he never paid for the product I was selling, and from the way he was communicating it seemed like a scammer.

I then found out his account was suspended, so I cancelled the order and relisted the item.

I was randomly charged £90 for absolutely nothing.

I shouldn’t be charged because eBay let some stupid scammer win my auction.

Can somebody help?

Re: Paying Fees For Scam

Just a guess, but you probably moved a little too quickly to resolve the matter. I suspect that you cancelled the sale as soon as you realized the buyer was attempting a scam. Unfortunatly, eBay requires sellers to jump through a couple of hoops to end a sale without incurring the charges. Here is what you can do: Call eBay, and point out that the buyer "is no longer a registered member", this is important because eBay probably has other information that he was indeed, a scammer. Ask for a "good will adjustment" on the fee you were charged. Be polite. You may be able to get eBay to reconsider. Good luck.

A cancellation of the transaction wasn't the correct action for you to take.  And depending on the reason you selected for the cancellation, it will drive whether or not your fees are refunded.

You should have either called Ebay and had them cancel the transaction or filed a UID [unpaid item dispute].  You would have had to wait a few days for this option to run it's course, but that was the claim you should have filed to get your FVFs back.

Now to get your FVFs back you will need to call Ebay, explain the issue and get them to refund you.
