PayPal

Some people, like myself, see no reason to use PayPal when we buy or sell on Ebay. It is just another level of complication and provides us with no value added.

Others, use PayPal for multiple sites with multiple sources of payment and types of purchase.

Who you are, how you use it, and whether it is in your comfort zone may lead to a different attitude.

I did buy postage for a non-Ebay shipment using PayPal shipping last week. Saved me the effort of creating a Pirateship account.

Do we like paypal?

I can only speak for myself.

I love paypal.

Why wouldn't I?

FYI: A buyer can do a chargeback regardless what form of payment they use.

PayPal

Normally, the customer would open on EBAY "return request" and when customer puts reason as "defective" (EBAY would force you to refund "purchase price + shipping BOTH ways").  EBAY requires that customer to "return the item" before you give them a refund.

However, because customer decided to ask PayPal to "reverse payment" (customer gets to keep both money + your item).   Customer is NOT required to prove that item was defective.   Credit card company do NOT require customer to return the item.  EBAY has no control over credit card

company decision.

I have found it better to allow EBAY returns (at least the customer is required to return the item).

I have had problems with ebay charging incorrect selling fees prior to the invention of Mismanaged Payments that I don't trust ebay with my bank account. I always had to call in to get things resolved and it would generally take a week minimum. When they came up with mismanaged payments they decided to take the amount paypal was charging and take away the ability to call in. With the callback feature it take a few times for my phone to actually ring. Paying more and getting less is NOT cool with me, so I disagree with your blanket statement @tobaccocardyahoo

Generally speaking, any buyer can steal any item from any seller at any time by filing a fraudulent dispute. This has been true since 2008 (I think) when eBay first introduced the Money Back Guarantee.

this has happened several times, so do we like paypal??

Since a buyer can file a payment dispute with almost any payment method, I fail to see the distinction between PayPal and any other form of online payment.

...not to mention that when a buyer pays, the seller has no idea how he funded his payment.

Seller does not need to know the payment method the buyer used. @a_c_green

Next time someone pays add  the tracking info to the paypal order. You were scammed because you didn't do that @luckythewinner

Back before mismanaged payments took over ebay you could add the tracking info to your paypal order and it would then update ebay automatically. You account has been around since 2005 and you didn't know that? I'm sorry you were scammed, but the tracking info could have been uploaded to every paypal order you shipped out.

I wasn't referring to a question of "need to know;" I was just pointing out that when selling on eBay, you do not know how the buyer funded his purchase.

Okay, are you talking here about an off-eBay sale for which your buyer used PayPal? If you're selling off-eBay and your buyer has paid you via the Send Money/Business process (i.e. not the Send Money/Friends or Family method), then yes, you should upload your tracking number after shipping if that does not happen automatically.

As someone else mentioned, as a seller, how would we even know what method of payment the buyer used?

Even if we did know, those are the payment methods ebay accepts.

As sellers, we can't change that.
