Come on sellers, we need to unite and let eBay know this is unacceptable! I knew that for a few months now PayPal has kept the 2.9%+$0.30 fee sellers pay when an item sells and then keeps it when a buyer returns an item for a refund HOWEVER, I did not realize they also keep it when a buyer asks to cancel a sale for any reason? eBay needs to protect its sellers either by forcing PayPal to rescind this policy or by allowing a seller to recoup this fee from the buyer. Cancellations are NOT a sellers fault so the buyer should be held accountable for any charges!

Ebay & paypal are two separate companies. That would be like telling Burger King to do something about Mcdonalds prices.

separate true, but eBay is a HUGE supplier of customers to PayPal.

I run a business. I and I alone decide what my business policies are. I will listen to suggestions and complaints from customers. But no customer is ever going to DICTATE to me what I should do. I will gladly lose that customer before I cede control.
Ditto, I suspect, Payapl.
And inasmuch as eBay is moving to Managed Payments and, by implication, away from Paypal then why should eBay even get into that fight.

WAS a huge supplier of customers to PayPal! Not anymore, eBay transactions now represent a ever shrinking and currently quite modest portion of PayPal's overall business. Add to that, over the next 1 - 2 years that amount of business will continue to shrink and will ultimately be a very small portion.

OK, forget I mentioned PayPal how about the 2nd part " or by allowing a seller to recoup this fee from the buyer." I mean come on, doesn't this seem unfair to anyone?? JEEEZZZZ

Paypal COULD capitalize on the eBay separation by creating their own selling venue, but if that's their plan, they aren't going to win many friends among eBay sellers with this policy.

I think they're pushing the Big Commerce platform. I got a letter from paypal about it a few months ago.

This just goes to note how powerful these corporations are. They literally make up the rules as they go along, and they do so with absolute impunity.
Paypal stealing money from sellers for transactions that never happened is akin to ebay charging sellers 5% added fees because too many of their buyers lied about the reason for their return. Both are pure theft, but they know they can get away with it.
Until political leaders start taking notice, these companies will continue to defraud as many people as possible.

For now, but the Ebay / PP contract ends in 2020.
